We stayed at the Hotel Mastines Chihuahuas in June 2007. The holiday was booked through Thomas Cook Lakeside as a very good value pricematch from a deal on their website.

If you have airport transfers then you'll have no problems - if you are driving then finding the hotel can be interesting since none of the maps on the net seem to show it's location well. Once you know how it's quite easy though.

Rooms
Initial room given was really small but help from reception, who were very good throughout the stay, produced a good sea facing (90% of rooms are) room. Room had king bed and usual amenities. No hairdryer or TV but fridges rentable at reception. The room was cleaned every day and staff were all friendly and helpful.

Initial impression of the hotel was of a typical large concrete towerblock, well situated on the top of a rocky clifftop. On entering the reception you get a feeling of a cool, clean hotel that seems rather dated in style.

Food & Drink We were Half Board so took advantage of the buffet restaurant. Hotel also has a lunchtime cafe bar which we never tried and a pool bar - closed when we visited. The main restaurant generally had plenty of tables and format is the usual package holiday hotel buffet. There was always plenty of food and waiters were very friendly, serving drinks to your table. Very occasionally the restaurant got very busy and a short wait was needed for a table - no great hardship. Generally the food was adequate but not as good as other Sol hotels in Costa del Sol or Canaries.
Entertainment The hotel entertainment staff work hard. They have a few professional shows but keep the nightly format the same with the typical entertainment certificates and bingo that anyone in this type of package hotel will be familiar with. Generally the guests were english so entertainment was in Spanish and English so no issues with understanding. Do not miss the "MR & MRS" type show when it's on - they seem to have an external presenter come in for this and she's great.
Pools The hotel has three pools. The largest is an interesting shaped affair which was rather cold when we went. The second is a standard rectangular job and the third is a smaller indoor heated one. There were always plenty of free sunbeds around the two outdoor pools, even in the afternoon. The garden area faces off to the coastal path so you can jump up from your sunbed and take a stroll down to either of the nearby beaches. (Both down quite a few steps.)
Resort Calles de Mallorca was typically an english resort so no issues with language anywhere. The negative side of this were that at times you wondered if you'd arrived in Southend on a sunny day. The resort doesn't have the most character being a purpose built holiday destination so we were glad of a car to get out and about.
Overall Overall I would say this hotels biggest asset are it's staff. It's well maintained, though dated, and offers great value for money. The only downsides are the lack of Spanish culture around the resort and the food. Certainly one I'd consider again for a plain sun and sand holiday if another good deal were on offer.
Update - 2009 We stayed at this hotel (which has now become the "Calas de Mallorca Sol Resort" in August 2009. We went for a cheap all inclusive sun break and got what we payed for. The hotel is still clean and well maintained. We stayed in the Mastines building, which had slightly smaller rooms than the Chiahuauas. They seem to now be concentrating on All inclusive packages so expect a sea of wristbands. You are more likely to see the Sun than the Times and when we went the place was packed. Sometimes it was difficult to get a sunbed. The resort hasn't changed much, still more steak and chips than Sangriia.
Overall, still a value for money hotel but, in my opinion, the all inclusive emphasis has taken it downmarket.
