Stayed here for a week at Easter 2009. Easy journey (about 25mins) by taxi from the totally new Paphosairport terminal (huge improvement on the old one). Greeted by porter who immediately took charge of our luggage. Reception very friendly and professional, we were installed in our room withinin 5 mins. Room had the requested pool/sea view and was generally very comfortable with very large double bed. Small balcony, well shielded from neigbours on each side with full height wall. Room had obviously had a minor refurb and was very clean, with new bathroom hardware, but tiles etc still looked a little tired. Public areas were very smart, with marble staircase down to lower sitting area overlooking the sea. Outdoor pool was cold, due to the time of year, but surprisingly large indoor pool, fully equipped gym and spa were available. Pool and gym free but spa services at extra cost, as you would expect. Small shop and hairdressers also available. Range of sitting areas around the pool, plus grassy areas and rocky areas adjacent to the sea. Animation team worked hard to encourage participation in events but were very friendly and not pushy. Nightly entertainment of the usual variable standard, but also an enjoyable quiz. Balance of guests during out stay were mainly British, but also German, French and Russian guests were staying. Dining experience was the main downside. Breakfast was generally OK but disapointed that no omlettes etc could be made to order as is usual in this class of hotel. Only "omlettes" available had been baked in the oven in trays and were some 50mm thick - more like egg custard. We did not have lunch in the hotel, but took the evening meals as we were on half board. The buffet dining room always opened later than the advertised time and was poorly laid out, with only 1 set of food stations at one end of the room. This meant that there was a constant stream of guests walking backwards and forwards with plates. Food was generally of a good standard, the salads being of a very high quality. The overall emphasis was on international favouries, with limited local dishes. We understand that in the summer, dining outside and at other restaurants is opened up, so the pressure on the dining room is probably less. The hotel is located approximately half way between Paphos harbour and Coral Bay, with a coastline walk to each (approx 80 minutes). There is little to see in the local area, but taxis and buses (E1.50 everwhere) are readily available. Overall a very enjoyable stay, but the dining experience could be significantly improved.
I haven't stayed in Paphos itself, but nearby. Nice review.. Rachael.
