GETTING THERE:
We arrived at the airport after a flight from Birmingham via Amsterdam and having read a number of reviews about the taxis from the airport and their enthusiasm for speed and reluctance to accept a fair fare or take four people in one taxi, we choose to book an airport transfer. We were met by a gentleman with our name on his notice and then escorted to a taxi outside. The journey was quite speedy but incident free, a couple of hairy moments, some very close ...
Advantages: Superb facilities, friendly staff Disadvantages: Remote location and complicated to get to the tourist areas, noisy weddings
INTRODUCTION
For several months this year, I found myself in Istanbul on business, holed up in a hotel on the Asia side of the city deep in the suburbs. This gave me the opportunity to get to know a lot of things about the hotel, as well as the time to make some observations. BUSINESS HOTEL TITANIC
Titanic is a hotel chain in Istanbul, with other hotels dotted around various locations in the city. This hotel is located some 20km from the historic centre of the Europe side, and on the other side of the water on the Asia side. It?s a very new hotel, having opened for business in June 2008, and looks quite incongruous in the immediate area, which looks a little tatty and is under development, with many ...
Advantages: Close to the airport, very grand, good facilities Disadvantages: Rather bland, very average food, expensive
I have had a one night stay here recently. I had never been to Istanbul before so was excited about my visit. This hotel is a five star hotel owned by the Marriott group. It's located 11 miles from the centre of Istanbul which is easy to get to by public transport or taxi. The airport is about 3 miles away and the hotel runs a free shuttle bus.
First impressions:
The hotel is a striking, blue glass plated tower with 27th floors and 404 rooms. It looks very grand and modern. The lobby is quite spacious and there is a security guard and a metal detector as you first enter the hotel as there have been several recent terrorist attacks in Istanbul.
Check In:
This was very quick and easy as there were plenty of staff milling around. They seem to speak a variety of different languages and were very polite and efficient without being ...
A wonderful location has been opened in the historical peninsula of one of the most beautiful cities of the world - Istanbul. We call this place a warm guest house with its traditional Turkish hospitality. The hotel is decorated with the authentic concept, reveals the best examples of the magnificent Ottoman Empire together with the original ethnographic segments of the oriental east culture.
