Seteais is part of the amazing set of the Serra de Sintra (Sintra Mountain, in English), not more than 30 km from Lisbon.
For those who don't now this area, Sintra is a very special place. Is the highest mountain (300 m only) near Lisbon and at the same time it's close to Cascais and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean coast. This proximity to the ocean gives to Sintra its only microclimate, foggy and wet, with a mystic touch, no matter what. That's why Sintra is such an exuberant place, where everything is green and fresh throughout the year. That was also the main reason why Sintra became the place where most nobles and even the Portuguese royal family build their summer houses.
Seteais is on the low part of the mountain, but has an amazing view to the Palácio da Pena on the top, and to all surroundings.
Before talking of the hotel, I must say that if you go to Sintra, you'll need a 3 or 4 nights stay to see all that the place has to offer you.
Now about the hotel.
I've been there a year ago, for a 2 nights stay, on my honeymoon. It was lovely, not only for the circumstances, but because the hotel provided everything we needed. It is an old palace, restored and converted in a hotel. The decoration is glamorous, from the 18th or 19th century, and even the rooms are all decorated accordingly. For example, the beds are shorter and higher, but very comfortable, and even the bathrooms have big old fashion tubs. At the same time, you find modern facilites, like lifts or a swimming pool (which you must only expect to try on summer, because of the weather). The surroundings are quiet, peaceful, only nature to admire. Beautiful gardens all around, you can enjoy nice walks.
It serves meals, though we only tried the breakfast, nice and rich, continental style.
The staff was all very professional and nice. No complaints. You have free car parking inside the hotel limits.
The prices are also reasonable for the quality, expect to pay around 100-150 € per night (breakfast included).
To conclude, I think it's a good experience to stay in this Hotel and I highly recommend it for couples! It's very romantic!
Important information: The hotel is currently closed, for remodelling, and it will be opening again on 2009.
