Trogir is a popular tourist destination - a compact, clean island accessible by bridge ... ...luggage as access to the hotel is on foot through the narrow, pedestrianised streets which give Trogir its character. The hotel is a former baroque palace from the 18th Century, recently renovated and decorated. It is a small family run hotel, only opened last year.

Location The hotel is situated within the beautiful walled city of Trogir along the Dalmatian coast. It is a short drive from Split airport (which is actually nearer to Trogir than to Split). Trogir is a popular tourist destination - a compact, clean island accessible by bridge and a UNESCO world heritage site. As the hotel is within the walls, parking is not available. There is a small car park around the outside of the town, but we made use of the free transfer from the airport offered by the hotel. (Not a minibus, but the personal cars of a chef and one of the reception staff!) Be prepared to carry your luggage as access to the hotel is on foot through the narrow, pedestrianised streets which give Trogir its character. Rooms The rooms are not numbered, but named after islands and resorts along the Dalmatian coast. We stayed in Dubrovnik and our travelling companions were in Split. Both rooms were spacious, light and airy with high ceilings and large windows with shutters. The décor was colourful and the rooms had been nicely refurbished. Curtains, bedding, rugs, towels and face-mitts were in various shades of red, orange and yellow which made a nice change from white! I liked the blue laminate floor with strips of wood coloured in and amongst. Overall the room gave an impression more of tasteful villa than faceless hotel. Our en-suite had a spacious corner shower and a large vanity unit, so you could put away toilet bags. There was also a heated towel rail with its own switch. I think someone made a mistake ordering materials for the refurb, as our bathroom window was plain rather than frosted glass (a little bit disconcerting!). The next door room was similar, but a different shape and had a bath instead of a shower. The room had a well-stocked minibar with prices which weren't as ridiculous as some hotels (bottle of Pepsi - £1.50, bottle of beer £2). It also had a stand-alone air-con unit and a TV and satellite receiver with over 100 channels, if I could work it!
Staff All the staff spoke good English and were exceptionally helpful and friendly. They really couldn't do enough for you. We arranged and paid for Ivana from reception to take us to the marina where we were to collect a chartered boat. She ended up taking three times as far as expected, telling us about the area and then spent twenty minutes with us, wandering around, asking people for information and ringing on her mobile to try and locate the boat. Well beyond the call of duty!
Meals The hotel has its own restaurant with indoor and outdoor tables. We enjoyed a relaxed continental breakfast outside in a quaint walled area at the back of the hotel. Yoghurt, orange juice, mugs of coffee, salami, cheese, fresh kiwi fruit and a selection of little pots of honey, jam, cream cheeses and pate. We also came back for lunch. Typical tasty Dalmatian fare - grilled chicken, Cevapcici ('fingers' of minced beef with spices) and veal in mushroom sauce and tomato and onion salad. All served with chips.
Prices For bed and breakfast (with free airport transfer), we paid 709 kunas (£71approx.) which I thought was good value. We paid by credit card but I think we could have got a discount for cash. (Our hotel later in the holiday offered a 12% discount for cash payment.) Our meals were priced between 50-90 kunas (£5-£9 approx) which was about the going rate in the resort.
Trogir is a small resort, so not everyone's choice for a holiday. This hotel, however, deserves a visit, and provides a great stopping-off point on the way to or from the airport.
