I was luck enough to go to Cuba a short while ago (november 4th 2004) for 17 days at the fabulous trypcayo coco, what a tryp it was! This is the most amazing hotel and for those who say it isnt..you must be really hard to please...i read many reviews before i went so had very mixed feelings but when i arrived i was just blown away..a true all inclusive hotel with stunning beaches, great people, very friendly staff, excellant well equipped rooms, stunning views, great food ( especially the pasta! ) and i didnt get bit by one mossi! we paid £799 each for 17 days so its real value for money too and i would go back in a flash, im going this year in fact!! same hotel same room everything!!
the room itselft was bright and airy with large patio windows and a little private balcony, which wasnt overlooked! we had a hot power shower usable anytime of the day along with a nicely
equipped bathroon area. large double wardrobes and dressing tables edged one side of the room. we even had good reception TV! the beds were two singles but easily pushed together, they were made daily by an excellant maid service who gives the little extras for a daily tip which didnt have to be cash, sometimes we left her sweets! just as rare in Cuba. we only had one working light in the room but you cant have everything right!..no bugs either
there are many food options on site ranging from buffet (excellant) to an a la carte restaurant, theres pizza shacks, beach bars, local restaurants and snack bars, some open 24 hours all with very friendly fast service. there was a guy who cooks fresh fish at the evening buffet, my partner tipped him one day(only a $) and got on really well with him, so much so he came in on his day off to cook our dinner cos he knew how we liked it!!! now thats service
We did some excursions the first time around and prices may have changed slightly sine the currency change to cuban peso from dollar, my prices are still in dollars though!
The jungle tour....your own speedboat which does 120 kilometres per hour and a great snorkell at the end..all for $39 (£15 each!)...a bargain trip and worth every penny and although i was the only one wearing a life jacket i didnt care or feel out of place, im not a super strong swimmer and didnt want to have to worry about staying aflost when looking at all the fish, lobsters, eels but i did miss the shark i was too slow getting in the water and it went and hid!
1 day in Havana...loads of top tourist hot spots visited in a day, flying there and back..a must for anyone who wants a bit of culture but dont expect too much beauty as there is a lot of refurbishment going on , saying that it is still a very beautiful city which im hoping will be well refurbished this time around...all for $179, some did the 2 night stay and were a little dissapointed so be warned!
Dolphin deluxe..what can i say!! An overnight trip just to swim with dolphins, we were a little dissapointed with Trinidad but the dolphin swim certainly made up for it the next day..truly a trip of a lifetime...all for $159...bargain! ( once here you can do it for a second time for only $30! but ssshh! its a secret!
We were booked in for the catamaran trip also but this was cancelled due to the area we were going to being rough..better safe than sorry!! we were refunded fully on our return to the hotel
depending on who you travel with depends on what trips your offered, we went with going places and never found out uyou could fly to the dolphins (1 day trip instead of 2) or that there was a crocodile farm trip! so keep an ear to the ground!
there is an indoor market onsite daily but theres not a huge amount to buy so you dont need lote of spending money! just pick up a few local made items but be careful as some are turtle shell etc and you may be able to take them out of cuba but getting into the uk may be different! customs are really strict in cuba too so dont try and take out too many cigars!
Overall this is the best holiday Ive ever been on and cant wait to go back and would highly recommend this hotel and destination, we even had a pair of lizards living on the sigh outside our room, how cool is that!!...if there is anything you would like to know in more detail i will be happy to anwser your queries!
If your going shortly....im soooo jealous but ill be there too soon!....dont forget to give plenty of tips as it really is a very poor country and they really do need it, tips are a plenty here but whats $1 a few times..50p! leave behind anything you dont really need...they do! they remeber you and love you for it! we made some great friends and look forward to seeing some familiar faces upon our return! lots of friendly canadians here too!
i should say stormy weather washed in a lot of jelly fish and i did get stung but it was no worse than a nettle sting really but the though was more scary! a bit of vineger from the baech bar and i was fine!
enjoy the pool bar with Ricardo! and join in the crazy games in the pool at 4pm!
(+) All round good pick for those wanting Caribbean on a budget. Great beach! (-) Probably not quite up to 5* standards like some other hotels, but we didn't mind!
