Advantages: Central location Disadvantages: Very basic
In Veracruz a few weeks ago, I chose to stay in a cheap, central hotel the first night, and a less-central, resort style hotel the second. This was my first hotel and it met the criteria immediately since it was located overlooking the central square, and cost £26 including taxes, which seemed reasonable for a private, ensuite room.
I found the hotel easily enough, having asked the taxi driver to drop me at the central plaza. The square is large and has the cathedral at one side, government buildings at the back, and a bandstand in the middle. The hotel was indeed on this square, but tucked away slightly in one corner, making it quieter for those lucky people whose windows faced this way. As I was soon to discover, I was not one of those people.

I stayed in the Hotelcentro when i went to Florence towards the end of 2006. It is located in a superb spot within walking distance from the station which was a first advantage.
The hotel itself is based upstairs over a supermarket which closes at around 10 at night and is down a quieter back street therefore it is a reasonably quiet street, meaning you get a good nights sleep.
On arrival you have to buzz in, so a receptionist, who are on 24 hours, can let you into the building. You go upstairs to the small reception desk. The 3 different receptionists that were on were all very pleasant and spoke both Italien and English which made checking in a very easy process. This took a couple of minutes and then i was directed to my room.

We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too.
Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly.
My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern.
I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower.
The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close.
The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated ...
