My Home from Home in Hilversum

Advantages: Friendly staff and a great restaurant
Disadvantages: Rooms are generally basic and the beds are too soft for me

Hilversum is a funny sort of place. It's only about a half hour train ride from Amsterdam but unless you own a very old radio and have studied the front panel very carefully, it's not the sort of place that people tend to have heard of. It briefly hit the headlines a few years ago when the leader of a right-wing Dutch political party with rather unsavoury views on immigration was gunned down in the city. Other than that, it's not well known unless you have connections to Nike or media companies like Endemol, the people we have to blame for Big Brother. My connections were more mundane. For almost six years I worked for a company with its European head office in Hilversum and I stayed many times at the Lapershoek, sometimes as often as two or three times a month. Hotel Villa Patrizi, Rome

Advantages: Good location, good value for money, polite staff
Disadvantages: Small rooms

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Why we chose the hotel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My boyfriend and I decided to take a weekend city break in Rome, we were joined by his parents who travelled seperately. We looked on Expedia for a good deal and we found one with reasonable BA flights and 3 nights stay at Hotel Villa Patrizi. We looked at the information and pictures of the hotel on the internet and it looked good so we decided to book it. Villa country House Hotel

Advantages: Friendly staff, clean
Disadvantages: Pricey, can have a few problems

My partner, daughter and I stayed at this hotel a couple of times when we go and visit the family up there. From the outside the hotel looked beautiful and clean and looked really big, as soon as i stepped in the doors i was weary but the staff are all nice and always had a smile on their faces. The hotel could do with a bit of a lift inside, the rooms wasn't as big as expected from the outside but was well furnished with all your little pieces ( trouser press, tea/coffee etc) The restaurant was nice with all your traditional food, the waiters and waitresses all know what they are doing and don't mess around, there was one complaint on the next table about a steak wasn't cooked right and the waiter offered to change it straight away, The waiter then came back out and said the steak was all from the same bit lot and it will ...
