Advantages: Great location & cheap Disadvantages: Not that many food places around
I visited Barcelona this July and stayed at the Hotel Hesperia DelMar for five nights with 3 other friends and I have to honestly say we all loved it! The hotel price which we got from expedia was one of the most competitive around and we were pleasantly surprised when we got to the hotel, for how cheap the hotel was it was quite nice. It cost for five night my share was 145 so the entire room cost was 290. The hotel reception staff were the highlight of the hotel. They are very friendly, warm and always willing to help! The rooms were standard and offered everything we needed. The bathroom was fully equipped with a shower, toilet, bidet and sink with large mirror. The bedroom consisted of 2 single beds and were comfy. There is air conditioning so we never felt hot and flustered in the room unless we turned it off and forgot to put it ...
Advantages: In a nice resort, quietish area, basic but clean and comfortable. Disadvantages: The evening meals were poor
Our family group of 7, myself, my husband, our son (aged 8), my parents, sister and niece (aged 10) booked between us three rooms for two weeks at the 3 star Hotel Clumba Mar in Ca'n Picafort, in the North East of Majorca for the last two weeks of June 06.
We chose this hotel because we liked the description of both the hotel and the resort in the Thompson's Sky Tours brochure as being quiet and family friendly as we were looking for a relaxing break and hoping to avoid being kept awake by local nightlife. We also got an excellent deal at the time of booking in January paying just under £1000 2 weeks half board for myself and my husband with our son getting a 'kids go free' place.

Advantages: Beautiful setting, easy walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants and beach Disadvantages: Can be a bit quiet out of peak season, dodgy water pressure
problem was that as it was so early in the season there were only a handful of other kids there and they were all German (along with the majority of visitors). Despite the shortage of kids the staff still made a big effort and roped in a few parents to bulk up the games a bit.
The scenery around the Parque Mar is stunning, it is overlooking a rocky cove which is lovely for sitting and watching the sea but don't believe anyone suggesting you can swim from there. Despite the ladder into the sea I'm fairly sure you'd meet a rather rocky end if you tried. There is a small sandy cove about 10 minutes walk from the hotel which is very nice although I would imagine it could get quite crowded in peak season.
There are several supermarkets and Spar shops within easy walking distance of the apartments and also plenty of bars and restaurants ...
