Advantages: Friendly staff, modern decor, lots of handy facilities, great location Disadvantages: Rooms are a bit on the small side and cramped
A couple of weekends ago I went to Amsterdam with my boyfriend. We wanted to find a hotel which was close to the centre so it was easy to get around, but that wasn't too expensive (if we could help it!)
I went on lastminute.com and I saw a deal for one of the 'secret hotels'. This means that you don't know which hotel you will be staying at, but that you will get it at a discounted price. It told us the rough location (around Rembrant Square), the room and hotel facilities and the star rating. You find out which hotel you are staying at as soon as you have made the booking. We thought it would be quite exciting to get one of the 'secret hotel' deals, it was in the right location for us and sounded like it had everything we needed so we went ahead and booked it for the price of £287 for three nights. The deal was also that we would get ...
Advantages: Nice quiet locale, cheap (relatively speaking) and cheerful. Disadvantages: Dated decor and basic rooms
On my recent trip to Amsterdam I was lucky enough to have the hotel and flights sorted out by one of my buddies - good man! He booked us in to The HotelDe Looier, which is a former diamond factory ( in the 19th century) in the antique district of Amsterdam, 5 minutes walk from the Leidseplein (one of the main bar/restaurant areas).
CHECKING IN
The checking in process was fairly quick and easy, although there only appears to me one member of staff in reception at any one time, so at busy times you could probably find yourself waiting a while to be seen to. With that in mind, I imagined that checking out would be a slow process but we only waited very briefly, probably because my friends took so long to get ready that we were quite probably the last guests in the building!
The lady who checked us in spoke fluent English, as ...
Advantages: Location is excellent Disadvantages: Small hotel, small rooms
I stayed in this hotel at the beginning of August for 1 night only.
I found it quite difficult to find a hotel in Amsterdam in the city centre for a reasonable amount of money.
We paid 120 euros for 1 room for 1 night. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from central station, so the location is excellent. The rooms are basic, with a comfortable double bed (a double bed not 2 singles - which is unusual), wardrobe, television and a bathroom with shower. The rooms though small were clean and generally in a good condition.
My friends also stayed at this hotel and their room was slightly nicer than ours, they also had a small 2 seater sofa in their room, whereas our room was smaller and did not have this.
You have to walk through a restaurant to get to the hotel, which I found quite strange at first, but all the hotels on that road are the same ...
