Houndshill shopping centre is situated in the centre of Blackpool by the Blackpool Tower complex. It’s right by the prom and opposite Kentucky Fried Chicken. Houndshill shopping centre was never anything special, but it sounds to be very promising. I am looking forward to see the changes since I’ve lived in Blackpool from the age of 2 and Houndshill shopping centre has been a big part of my shopping life.

Blackpool is undergoing a lot of changes right now and Houndshill shopping centre is in phase 2. Eventually the perfect Houndshill shopping centre will have large floor plates in a covered environment. The only enclosed shopping centre in Blackpool. Houndshill shopping centre will be owned by Modus Group and be surrounded by, Debenhams, Boots, Next and an 800 space car park. The scheme will be opened in spring 2008.

My only concern is that it doesn’t get spoilt by hen or stag parties looking for fun. It will also be extremely busy so maybe not easy to move around given the space. I think Houndshill shopping centre will make a big difference to Blackpool and provide some good shops because at the moment we haven’t got many good shops and it’s nice to be able to think I won’t have to travel to Preston to go to Debenhams. I also like the fact that you won’t have to travel far to reach good shops, but they will all be under one roof. Especially since in the winter Blackpool gets some bad weather so when it’s raining it will be ideal because you’ll be under cover.
I think it would make holiday maker’s trip to Blackpool more pleasant because at the moment we don’t have many good shops. I think the changes that are happening to Blackpool are for the better. I can’t imagine choosing to come to Blackpool myself because I live here and you get fed up with it. If I was on holiday and I wanted to get some nice clothes then I think the appeal of a new shopping centre would be something I couldn’t miss. I love shopping and I’m going to enjoy all the new shops.
This shopping experience will appeal to all ages since there are going to be a choice of shops so it would particularly suit a family and since Blackpool is a family Town then this is ideal. I am fed up of going into Houndshill shopping centre at the moment and seeing all the work carrying out. I will be happy when it’s all finished and there are good shops to choose from. Maybe it will be worth the wait then. I think it’s good that Houndshill shopping centre is situated yet more shops making it ultimately a great shopping Town. There are also places to eat nearby so you don’t have to go far to eat. Having eating and drinking places nearby provides the rest stop that you need as a shopper. When you are shopping for a long time having to try clothes on it’s a tiring job so the café’s nearby will make a handy rest to your shopping experience. There are many café’s and fast food places so this gives the customer choice and makes it an easier decision.
Finally I will mention the Centre opening times are Monday to Saturday 9a.m – 5.30p.m and Sunday 10a.m – 4.00p.m. Before I forget travelling there is also easy you can get a bus into Town from most places. Then it's about a 5 minute walk. You can get a tram and it's again a 5 minute walk. There are also many taxi's. The Town has also been reworked for pedestrians although it's not entirely pedestrian friendly you can get a taxi near enough. Altogether I think it will be a good shopping experience.
Advantages: Provides shelter from the rain, and a decent selection of shops and services Disadvantages: Most of the big names aren't there
...escalators, along with obligatory stairs. Houndshill is an ok shopping environment although some of the patrons leave a little to be desired. It’s clean, if not sparkling, and well, if not wonderfully, laid out and sign posted.
The centre is open 7 days a week generally, but opening hours do vary, so call in advance to check (telephone number is 01253 24722)
After getting used to the Trafford Centre and even the Arndale Centre to a lesser ... ...areas can be a bit of an anticlimax, but I will shop there when I’m in the area. I wouldn’t recommend you making a special trip though, and one of the websites I was on (which won’t be named since it’s so pants) took it a bit far in my opinion by listing the ways to get there : “Fly up to Blackpool airport” it said, “or take a train or coach from anywhere in the UK”. From the Fylde bit of Lancashire, ...

Advantages: A shopping Centre triple the size from early 2008 Disadvantages: Temporary disruption due to construction works
The Hounds Hill Shopping Centre remains a good place to go in bad weather in Blackpool, but it is currently undergoing significant regeneration. Phase 2 of the already well established centre is to be anchored by Debenhams, Boots and Next with an 800 space car park incorporated into the development. Blackpool Council used a Compulsory Purchase Order to move forward with the purchase of land surrounding the current Hounds Hill. This included the NCP ... ...all of which needed to be owned by the developer before the scheme could take shape. The project will refurbish and extend the Hounds Hill to about treble it's current size. Construction is now well underway and I understand the scheme is planned to be completed in spring 2008. Other occupiers are expected to include Clarks, River Island and Arcadia. Primark have already moved into the vacated Littlewoods store and have been busy whenever I have ...

Advantages: People Friendly Disadvantages: Another Council sitting on it's hands
the establishments doors after paying to get in, it does not make sense the law has gone berserk in this country and it is about time something was done regarding this let common sense prevail.
Getting back to Blackpool The Houndshill Shopping Centre was nothing but a building site, yes another one. A lot of your holiday gift shops have disappeared as well, buildings are looking rather run down and tired with age needing a lot of T.L.C., The Tower inside was badly needing renovated and a new paint job also could be said the same for Pleasure Beach paintwork crumbling in areas.
All in all Blackpool looks an aged and tired relic of it's past former glory whether it revives again who can tell, the residents and Hotel owners are still a friendly bunch and they know in their hearts what is wrong lets hope they get what they deserve. ...
Advantages: cheap and cheerful Disadvantages: no high quality stores
store is set to open as part of the development of the Hounds Hill shopping centre.
As it stands, the hounds hill is grubby and dark with very little lighting, more 1976 than 2008. The new proposals ready for May 2008 look set to change all that. And by looking at the plans, I cant help but feel a bit more optimistic about the towns future (for sketches of how the new centre will look search on google image for 'houndshillblackpool').
A spot many tourists wont visit is Abingdon Street Market, near the Winter Gardens. Housed all under one roof are hundreds of small markey stalls, all with bargains to be had. Somehow throughout the years with all the modernisation that's taken place around it, this place has managed to retain its community feel. Well worth a look around.
Retail wise, Blackpool houses most of the usual highstreet ...
