Advantages: Some decent products
Disadvantages: Surly, rude assistants and poor layout

Do House of Fraser actually want to sell things? On several occasions I have asked assistants this question, because it appears to me that they don’t really care if they sell things or not. Normally I am a very patient person, with high tolerance levels. I do not complain easily and generally give people the benefit of the doubt. House of Fraser is one of Britain’s largest department stores with over 50 shops. I can’t comment on all of them, and I’m sure that they have some good stores with helpful assistants. But I haven’t been in any of them! This op is based on my experiences in the following House of Fraser stores: London Oxford Street, London Kensington High Street (known as ‘Barkers’), Reading The Oracle and most of all, London Victoria Street (known as ‘Army ... more

Family Friendly

Ooooh Fancy

Advantages: classy ,helpful assistants, great stock
Disadvantages: none

This department store is not in every city but if you have one you are very lucky. My nearest one has about three or four floors with cosmetics, gifts and clothes on them. I love the presentation of the tore it's very classy and when I have the money I definitely go on in an have a look. They have some good offers on here and the sales can be really good to. As soon as you walk into my nearest one there are many cosmetics counters from Clinique, ...
...my favourite counters is BeneFit, I love their make up it is really different and so great always doing what it promises. Many counters will let you get some samples and they will let you test products. They are always friendly and happy to explain their products to you. I like to have the money and shop in here because it is a great feeling to buy expensive things. This department store is more for the women. On the same floor as this there is also ...

House of Fraser Guildford

Advantages: Great presentation, nice staff
Disadvantages: A little expensive!

House of Fraser, or Army and Navy as it was previously known, has bought business and people to Guildford for many years now. But why is it that people keep coming back? What is it about the House of Fraser experience that keeps luring them back to the store? My nearest House of Fraser has been shut for about nine months. But, after huge rennovation, it has now re-opened it's doors and it's stunning. It has marble floors, glass bannisters, chrome ...
...with all big department stores, House of Fraser is somewhat more expensive than the small retailers, but you get the full experience of trying out, and hands on. And, also, you may not get home delivery from a small retailer, although you can make a saving going small business. All the goods are very well presentedaround the store, with clear pricing. The toilets and store in general is very clean, and, during the recent refurbishment, they have ...

House of Fraser - House of Hell

Advantages: Good coffee bar....
Disadvantages: Rude staff, over priced products, poor layout

...them. In defence of House of Fraser, they do have a great coffee bar which was very child friendly. However, it is worth pointing out, this is contracted out to Cafe Nero and isn't really anything to do with House of Fraser. In conclusion, if labels and designer names are important to you, and if you can afford them, perhaps House of Fraser could be like a second home to you. If you are like me, a working mother with three kids to look after who ...

R E S P E C T find out what it means to me

Advantages: Wide range of womens clothes
Disadvantages: Extremely rude assistants

...rush when I went into House of Fraser the other day...I needed a top to wear that night, and as usual I had left it until last minute, no suprise there. I was on my lunch hour from work, and because I'm not the sort of person to skip a meal, I was rushing! So I went over to the Oasis department, picked out a top I liked...rushed frantically over to the changing room to be met by two sales assistants talking....so being the polite girl that I am :).....said ...
...but I wasn't aware that House of Frasers company policy was to be as rude and unhelpful as possible?! So I ran across the store bare foot to get a new top. After trying it on, I gave the top to the girl at the till who said to me..."You can't pay here"...I was fuming by that time and told her, in the least annoyed way possible, that the girl from Oasis had sent me there etc etc. In the end, I got served...and left 45mins later... Late back for ...

'Jail' House of Fraser more like.

Advantages: Wide range of items
Disadvantages: Annoying Security Guards, visually off putting

House of Fraser could be such a good department store but there is a number of annoying things about it, all of which I think could be sorted. I am referring to only one store, the Milton Keynes branch, as I have not yet visited others. The problems are that firstly and the most annoying is if you enter the store in a group of more than two and you are all youngish in age at least one security guard will follow you, quite obviously, around the store. ...
...CCTV in place. Does House of Fraser just not use theirs? A second problem is a lot of the staff seem to be up themselves as though they have landed a top job yet they do not seem to do their jobs properly. Clothes are always screwed up lying all over the place as though it was a jumble sale. Surely this is not good for business? Finally have you seen their website. You cannot buy off it and there are only about fifty items on view. You may ask ...

Shop til you drop! (Or grab a bite to eat)

Advantages: Big variety of shops, easily accessible on public transport
Disadvantages: Grubby pavements stuck with chewing gum, can get very busy, expensive parking fees

taking place after a school which previously occupied the site moved to south Croydon in 1965. Having said that, it's had major refurbishment work carried out over the years, so it doesn't look particularly old fashioned. Sadly, a large Woolworth's in the Whitgift centre has just closed, and a nearby Zavvi on the high street will be closing imminently. Also in the Whitgift is the last remaining Allders department store, kept open by financial backers a few years ago, although I believe the others around the country folded. A Debenhams, Marks and Spencers and relatively new House of Fraser are the biggest department stores in town. The House of Fraser has a wonderful Food Hall in it's basement, with a Café Zest which always seems to be very busy, a Caffe Nero and a Yo Sushi bar. If like me, your shopping is usually interrupted by a need ...

Review of Croydon shopping in general

Wow! Huge! Great deals on designer clothes.

Advantages: Loads of shops all in one place.
Disadvantages: It'll leave you feeling very tired from all the walking around!

The Lakeside shopping centre in Thurock is the best shopping centre I've been to in the UK. There are so many shops in one place! All the shops you could wish for. You'll need to allocate lots of time to do a good portion of the shops there. House of Fraser, the department store was my favourite of all the shops. It had lots of designer clothes at cheap prices. When I went about 90% of the shops there had a sale on. I guess if a few of them have sales then the rest try to compete! You'll find everything you need at lakeside including cashpoints, somewhere to eat, loads of free car-parking. ...

Review of Lakeside (London)

Leeds Marriott: Great weekend break!

Advantages: Great location and nice hotel
Disadvantages: Can be expensive but some good deals available

About the hotel: The Leeds Marriott is owned and operated by the Marriott international chain of hotels. Location: The hotel is located in the city centre very close to the main attraction. Less than five minutes walk away is the main shopping street which features a House of Fraser department store as well as Harvey Nicholls. There is also a large branch of Marks and Spencer as well as the usual range of high street shops such as Topshop, The centre of Leeds has a great variety of shops and places of entertainment's. There are a great variety of bars and nightclubs and it is a great choice for a weekend away of sigh seeing and shopping. The Royal Armories is a great afternoon out for history buffs and you are only 40 minutes drive form the historic city of York. The countryside surrounding Leeds is dotted ...
