As a person who has worked in retail before, I know the general customer service procedures, even though you would agree politeness is common sense.....or so you would think.
I was in a rush when I went into House of Fraser the other day...I needed a top to wear that night, and as usual I had left it until last minute, no suprise there. I was on my lunch hour from work, and because I'm not the sort of person to skip a meal, I was rushing! So I went over to the Oasis department, picked out a top I liked...rushed frantically over to the changing room to be met by two sales assistants talking....so being the polite girl that I am :).....said excuse me,could I try this on please? They both turned around and looked at me in disgust for halted their oh so serious conversation about their hair..which couldn't possibly wait obviously...and said "no go over there".
I was appalled, they were stood next to a changing room that was not only open but empty!!
So off I toddled in a huff to the next changing room..........please kind miss could you let me in (I felt like Mary being turned away from the inn)....and again I got the response "Who sent you over here, ours are locked, go back"
I was a bit annoyed at this point, being in a rush n all...........
I finally got into a changing room, but the silly top was too big....so I stuck my head out the curtain to ask the assistant to pick me up a smaller size.....she turned to me and said "no, I can't, you'll have to go"...by this time my jaw had hit the floor, I was gobsmacked! So I said, well can you look after my belongings in the changing room then..........."No, its not company policy".
I'm not sure about everyone else but I wasn't aware that House of Frasers company policy was to be as rude and unhelpful as possible?!
So I ran across the store bare foot to get a new top.
After trying it on, I gave the top to the girl at the till who said to me..."You can't pay here"...I was fuming by that time and told her, in the least annoyed way possible, that the girl from Oasis had sent me there etc etc.
In the end, I got served...and left 45mins later...
Late back for work, with an empty stomach :(
Other than the horrifying service, House of Fraser does have a wide range of products. The womens clothes range includes Oasis, Warehouse, Therapy, Morgan, CK, Miss Sixty, Linear, Wallis and many more. The clothes are quite pricy, but that is because the clothes shops themselves are expensive, not because House of Fraser has increased the prices. For example, a pair of smart trousers from Oasis or Warehouse would cost you in the region of £45-£50.
They also have a huge lingerie section (obviously differs in different stores nationwide). Which includes a lot of CK underwear which are always glam!
I find that the perfume and make up departments are always too pushy in department stores, especially this one. They do have a wide range, but I personally prefer to look at makeup in peace in Boots for example. I have often found before that the price of the makeup doesn't come from the quality but the name.Hence sticking with Boots brands.
For anyone who wants to see this shop...you can find their products or your local store on www.houseoffraser.co.uk. I may go on later to complain! If I had treat customers like that when I was a sales assistant, I would have been sacked...so all I want...House of Fraser assistants out there if you're listening....is some RESPECT!
yep they concession stores so HoF doesn't have any say! They all wear name tags with Sales Associate HoF on them and then their company name eg Oasis.

Hello , What I understand about department stores is that the concession shops , such as Oasis , Ted Baker , Morgan etc) , employ their own staff , ie not House of Fraser .
So staff policy differs from one consession to another .
My partner is a shopfitter and has done fiiting in Bentalls and House of Fraser ,he finds the staff standoffish also !

I love the store but the service you received sounds appalling. xxx
