Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States, the largest city in Texas and has a population of approximately 5.6 million people. Oil was discovered here in 1901 so that explains the great number of people that now call this city home.

It's true what they say about Texas, "everything is bigger and better in Texas" and it's that brash attitude that puts many people off going to visit but I have been a few times now and absolutely loved it.

Then we battled the traffic home. The freeways were unbelieveable, you can't really get anywhere in Houston without a car but that really could be said of most big cities in the United States.

Houston struck me as quite a family orientated city. In the region where my cousin lives it was just rows and rows of suburban housing but very nice surburban housing.
If you are looking at Houston as a tourist destination then there are lots of things to do that you might not be aware of but offer a really interesting time. Houston is home to the NASA Johnson Space Center whre I took my two little cousins for the day. We had a really great time. On the lawn outside is a big space shuttle which you can get fairly close to and inspect. Inside they have various displays such as an astronaughts uniform, info from various missions and also a flight simulator. It was very informative without being boring as the kids loved it.
We also went to the zoo the next day and at only $5 for kids and $10 for adults it was a very inexpensive day out.
Aparently, although I didn't go that trip Houston is also home to Texas's largest shopping mall, the Galleria so definitely worth a trip next time I am in America!
Although there are a million other things you could write about Texas I would definitely recommend it as a place to visit so you can find out all these things for yourself!
Advantages: cheap merchancise, abundant and cheap places to eat, warm climate all year 'round Disadvantages: Not very scenic, can't get anywhere without driving, crazy motorists!
...‘How ya’all doing?’ chirped a Houston shop assistant as we entered a clothing store, assaulting my personal space by questioning me from a distance of one inch. I quickly checked over my shoulder assuming she must be addressing a large group of people. I soon realised that groups of people in larger numbers than nought, are referred to as “ya’all”. Judging by the barrage-balloon proportions of some of the inhabitants though, I could see how easy ... ...than one person crammed into the same outsized outfit. After the eleventh assistant in the same shop had asked me how all of me was doing and whether she could show all of me anything, I felt ready to snap, “Look, why don’t you just go and re-arrange some hangers and let me shop in peace. If I need any help I’ll ask for it!”
“Have a nice day!” shrieked another assistant even more falsely, with the standard coathanger grin and six rows of teeth, ...

Advantages: Central location Disadvantages: Bad service with grubby rooms
As some of you may already know, I have recently returned from a lovely break in Houston, Texas. The main reason for our trip was to go to "Wrestlemania", the WWE's large yearly event. Yes it is slightly sad to travel 5000 miles for wrestling, but you only live once and I am indeed sad! To ensure the expense and hassle would be worth it, we added an additional 7 night's holiday to the trip, making it a 10 night get away.
We booked our wrestling part of the trip direct with WWE and thought the packages sounded like the best deal for our money. Included was 3 nights in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Houston as well as a lot of other boring wrestling things I won't bore you with! ;)
My initial reaction when we were told and confirmed on the package, of where we would be staying for the last 3 nights of our trip, I was ecstatic ...
Advantages: A Lot of Designer Shops Disadvantages: Too Many Designer Shops
Before booking my recent trip to Houston, Texas with my other half, we looked into what to expect when we were there, activities to do and places to visit. The Galleria Mall is the official 7th largest Mall in America. Seeing this and knowing just how much myself and my fiancé like shopping, I booked our hotel just a few blocks down the road from the mall, with every intent of visiting.
Located in the "up-town" part of Houston, named "The Galleria District" this mall stands proud covering nearly 3 million square feet of space (this includes the 2 tower blocks and all of the office blocks located on the land)
The mall itself is laid out over 3 floors with the bottom floor having an ice rink in the centre and home to the food court. There were many places to eat here including McDonalds and various other fast food places, as well ...
Advantages: A Large Number of Animals in Decent Enclosures Disadvantages: Not Enough Food Option or Toilets
The Houston Zoo is a large 55 acre zoo that is home to over 4500 exotic animals located in, yep you guessed it, Houton Texas, USA.
The zoo itself can be found just behind Hermann Park and the Houston Museum of Natural Science, in the "Museum Disrtict" of the city.
The zoo is open from 9am - 7pm and costs only $10 per adult (anyone over 12) or $6 for children under 12. I think this is fantastic value for a family day out as you can stay in the zoo for as long as you want from opening to closing.
The entrance is large and clearly marked with plenty of free parking for those driving. The first thing I noticed about the zoo when we went was how colourful it was, from the entrance signs and ticket booths to all the lamposts and bins in and around the zoo. It is bright and inviting and looks very nice and I imagine will appeal to ...
