Have recently returned from a turkey and tinsel holiday in Stirling in Scotland and it was a great family holiday.
So what made us choose Hoverland and the destination? My family and I were stuck for what to buy each other this year and was fed up of buying bits and pieces (and the bits of tat) to make presents up, so we decided we would use the money which we would normally spend (waste) on xmas presents and go away on a nice family holiday that we could all enjoy. We have been on holiday with hoverland several times over the last 10 years now so this was our first port of call. It is also one of the cheapest coach tour operators around when compared to other companies such as shearings, parrys, sunplaya etc, and in my family its a case of better the devil you know, Although we have been on holiday with other coach companies.
So we booked a five day holiday to Sitlring in Scotland for 5 days for £225 exc insurance for full board with free bar. Normally we would take the insurance as well but only for european holidays. We were picked up at a reasonable time of 8.30am and after making 2 stops on the way arrived at approx 4.30pm. We stopped at a place called Moffat on the way there which had good services and a huge shop but not as may as in Greta Green where we also stopped off at on the way back.
The hotel the Golden Lion was fantastic, and of course the free bar from 6pm - 10pm was also a bonus. The food was lovely with a choice for all tastes. The only downfall was the entertainment which consisted of a singer / comedian every night. And although they were very good they all more or less had the same material, and was aimed at the older generation.
On Tuesday we had a free day so was pretty much upto ourselves what we wanted to do. Of course, i went shopping in the morning then a look around Stirling of the afternoon. Tonight was Xmas night and apart from the crackers on the table which we had every night there wasnt really anything christmassy about it.
Wednesday included a trip to Edinbugh where we were givne about 5 hours free time here. It was a lovely city but the visitor attractions were costly. Tonight in the hotel was hogmany(new years eve) and again there was not much in the way of celebration apart from a few songs!
Thursday included a trip to Calendar, loch lomond and a whisky distillery. Tonight was Burns night in the hotel where we were led into dinner by a piper (bagpipes) and then the same old entertainment again.
All the people on this holiday were of the older generation so when it came to the entertainment i felt very dissapointed as even the quiz which the courier had made was pre war!
All in all though this was a very enjoyable holiday and money well spent and at least we havent got lots of bits and pieces this xmas that will be sold on a car boot sale next year. Would recommend this holiday as a nice 'getting away from it all ' break although i wouldnt recommend it for disabled people or people with mobility problems as it can include a lot of walking.

What a good idea - sounds a lot more fun than ending up with socks, ties and other things you don't want on Christmas day. Its a pity you couldn't have gone a bit later though, so you would be in Scotland for Hogmany.
