As a resident of Hull myself i have found that the residents either love it or hate it. And having lived in Stoke-on-Trent for over 4 years, I can proudly say that I love my home town, or should I say City. Whenever Hull is mentioned on the TV, and usually it is in the comic context (see The Office, Spaced and Blackadder Goes Fourth, to name but a few), it is often described as Hell and smells of fish etc. So what if by changing a letter in its name, Hull becomes Hell, why don't we apply the same to Notting Hill for instance?
No, Hull is a little known City, and City it is, which many people wouldn't know. We have the Humber Bridge and Country Park for afternoon strolls/rides during the summer. We have the Marina for summer drinking and folk and jazz festivals, and likewise Queen's gardens. We have The Deep, Ferens Art Gallery, Hull Life museum, The Wilberforce Museum to name but a few. We have 2 universities and many renowned independent art galleries. We have one of the best vegetarian (and student run) restuarants in the country. We have a good array of shops (though I admit that this needs to be improved, and that Leeds is best for fashion), pubs and clubs. For a completely different, and the cheapest night out you'll ever have - go to Spiders nightclub. We have numerous cinemas and theatres. For the sports loving we have numerous gyms, the K.C. Stadium and the Ice Arena.
We have an interesting history dating back (in written records at least) to the 400's A.D. and Roman remains are being found in ever more locations. The historic High Street was home to William Wilberforce - the man behind the abolition of the slave trade. We were instrumental in blocking Charles 1 from accessing his gun stores during the Civil War.
Hull has more to offer than first meets the eye. The problem is that we do not get any 'passing trade' as such, with us being at the East End of the M62. But we are well worth a visit - and we'll make you feel welcome.

Obviously being a Grimsby lass i have to insist that Grimsby is much better, though Hull does have the benefit of having a Lush store!

Only been to Hull once when visiting The Deep. Nothing really stood out to be except the big Woolworths store that was being built. (Is it finished yet?) But going back that way later this year so will give it a second chance.

hhhmmmm it was described as the worst place in Britain in a popular book, my boyfriends is from Doncasetr and many of his mates went to Uni there, he wasn't personally taken with Hull, but I have never been so I will not be judgemental!

Advantages: Pretty fast, reasonable service, wine has high alcohol content Disadvantages: Not always reliable, cattle class is crowded, tickets are expensive
