Hull does not have a good reputation. Most people's view on the East Yorkshire city is based on ignorance. First some facts....this City doesn't have a fishing industry, it is easy to get to from other parts of the country, it does have some excellent shops and a vibrant nightlife. Few people are aware that William Wilberforce, who played a vital part in the abolition of slavery came from Hull. The City has a Wilberforce Museum which outlines the battle to end the Slave Trade and there is a statue of the man in the City centre. Many visitors to Hull are also delighted with the Ferens Art Gallery which has had some intriguing modern art exhibitions and the Spring Street Theatre which is home to the nationally reknowned Hull Truck Theatre Company. The company is best known for the works of playwright John Godber who's written such popular works as "Up 'N Under" and "Bouncers". In short this is a city with a lot to recommend it and needs to be visited simply to show how off the mark some of the stereotypes about the place really are.
