Lake Balaton - Hungary now with Ryan Air
Advantages: Cheap flights Disadvantages: Boring
Lake Balaton, Hungary.
"Where the b.hell's that?" you may enquire. Well look at a map of Hungary and the lake sticks out like a racing dog's ……well let's be polite - its very obvious on the map, It is the largest fresh water lake in Central Europe and is about 48 miles long east to west and between 3-9miles north to south.
What on earth made me decide to write about this place I'm not quite sure, but one thing is sure, I passed it 18 yrs ago and ... ...Germans had taken over the lake as their own, even back in 1989 and my very recent visit has confirmed my suspicion that it is now almost a province of the fatherland .
I decided to read previous Ciao reviews, the last I could find was 4 yrs ago, and definitely families enjoyed it - in summer it is hot, apart from the odd cyclonic storm to clear the air of bratworst. The lake is clean, tide-less and apparently according to one review, it is good ...

City of Sunshine!
Advantages: Beutiful, vibrant city with everything you want and need for a perfect holiday Disadvantages: homeless people tend to move into this city for summer (not as bad as London, or any big city)
To be honest I visit Szeged around 5 times a year and I spend at least a month of my holiday in the summer there! I just love it From Budapest there is a highway straight to Szeged (approx. 1:30 hour drive). If you dont want to go by car, no problem there is train from west station EVERY HOUR (intercity cabins with airconditioning for very decent price 10-15 euros). Or you can take a coash which leaves 4-6 times a day from Népliget main station in ... ...If you like the nature, you can have many wonderful trips from here to the great plain of Hungary, furthermore you can cross into Serbia and Romania very quick. Szeged is a wonderful, multicultural city. It has a vibrant student life too. I can just recommend it! ...

very friendly people and a beautiful country
Advantages: not too many tourists, hot in the summer and snow in the winter Disadvantages: none
I stayed in Hungary for five weeks a few years ago as part of a university experience. During that time I travelled around a few different places, off the tourist track and discovered the real country. My friend Zsuzsa showed me around her country and tok me to places such as Escegfalva, Devevanya and other small towns. We did spend some time in Budapest as well where she took me to the bars that the locals drink in. I did not see a single part of ... ...definately worth travelling outside Budapest to see towns which aren't touched by the tourist trail and although it can be hard if you don't speak the lanuguage the experience is worth any difficulties you encounter. One tip though, on all trains and the underground keep your valuables close to you as there are a lot of pickpockets and thieves on the transport.
The country is quite cheap so you don't need too much money to go and have a good time. ...

Thirsting for Hungary...or, so prone to Sopron
Advantages: Well preserved and beautiful Old Town Disadvantages: Outskirts are a bit dismal
SOPRON in Hungary, and the area around it, is surrounded almost completely by Austria. In fact a referendum was held there after WW1 - and the break-up of the Austria-Hungarian Empire, to decide which country it would belong to with the residents deciding to stay in Hungary. These days, with the iron curtain having been drawn wide open, there is a huge influx of tourists to this town. Most of these tourists, it has to be said, are Austrians on a ... ...the time we spent in Sopron was not the cleanest we had ever been. It was not a room we relished spending a great deal of time in. The toilet paper was that crispy, tracing-paper type and there was a lock on the dispenser. I wonder what sort of person steals that stuff.
There were plenty of sports facilities in the hotel, such as: sauna, solarium, steam bath, small swimming pool, jacuzzi, massage, aerobic, fitness-room, billiard room, 6 clay tennis ...

Beautiful Hungarian village
Advantages: Picturesque and easy to get to Disadvantages: None
My boyfriend and i visited this village in December and loved the experience. We did not go as part of an organised tour as we found that it was fairly easy to get to from Budapest, even if you don't speak Hungarian. We spent half a day in the village looking round and the shops, walking round the surrounding area and visiting bars and restaurants. It is slightly touristy but then that is only to be expected as coach loads of tourists do visit the ...
