I have been here a few times now, and I still enjoy it, loads to do or lie on the beach all day. Hurghada is large, quite varied and spreading with all the building going on. There is the old town, Sekalla, new part of town, shopping areas and hotel zone, each with slighlty different charachter. And transport on little mini buses with the locals is cheap and reliable.
The big attraction here is the year round sunshine, ideal for sun and sea worshippers. The water is clear and full of marine life, boat trips to nearby Giftun Islands are a must., bookable from most hotels.
It is possible to travel to Luxor to the pyramids from here but it is a long journey, 5hrs and only taken on a bus convoy over the 1 or 2 days, but a must do when in Egypt.
Dessert trips are fun, by camel, or quad bike, but again have to be with an organised tour, westerners are not allowed out in the dessert themselves.
Egyptians are friendly folk without coming accross as being too much, like some others. The hotels, mostly beach front, are generally quite high standards with all mod cons. Food is quite mediteranean in taste, fresh salads, fruit, fish, chicken and lovely sweet pastries and cakes.
Few tips though, don't go in the perfume shops, unless you really want to buy some, or get out of the sun. They wil try to keep you there for hours. A polite, no thanks as you walk past should do.
Don't visit anywhere in Egypt without some kind of diarrhea medication, just in case. It's not that it's dirty, it's not ,it's very clean, they just have different bacteria to us in their water, and some people don't react well. Better to be prepared!!
