Advantages: Nicely restored tourist friendly old town Disadvantages: The ladies hunt in packs
Salvador, in the state of Bahia, north east Brazil (or São Salvador da Baía de Todos os Santos as it was named in the past) was the first colonial capital city of Brazil and, although power shifted to Rio de Janeiro in the late eighteenth century, then to Brasilia in 1960, it retains much of it's past grandeur and colonial architecture. One of the main reasons to come here, however, is the wonderful mix of cultural influences that make the cuisine, music and lifestyle here so different even to other parts of Brazil. The population of over three million, consists mainly of people with African origins descended from slaves, although there have been many other strong influences through Salvador's history. Salvador is also famous for it's carnival and street parties.

Advantages: Just an awesome place to stay! Disadvantages: Although the complex has everything, the nearest town is 20mins away.
I stayed in this hotel last year! We actually stayed in the Tulum Hotel which is one of the 3 hotels connected to the complex. It was fantastic. From the moment we arrived and were given a champange cocktail things looked good. The food was all inclusive and of the highest standard, various other restaurants and snack bars were also available until midnight 7 days a week. The Tulum sits on the beach, which has windsurfing and scuba diving available to guest staying in the hotel. The entertainment was very family orientated which is ideal for people wanting to take there kids away. Although be aware that this hotel complex is about 40 mins drive from Cancun and therefore a little out of the way. Saying that I wouldnt hesitate in returning there. ...
Advantages: Fantastic rooms, friendly staff, great location Disadvantages: some of the other guests seem to think their a bit special!
be booked over the hotel groups website, by calling a central reservations number, by calling the hotel directly and most likely through your locale travel agents alothough i wouldn't recommend this as it will work out much more expensive that contacting the hotel directly.
I would definatly recommend a visit to this hotel especially for a special occassion, the staff are always friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile, for example several times they've made food for me not on the menu just because i enquired as to whether they did do it or not. Also if you have an american express card you can often get deals on buy one get one night free in de vere hotels, and sometimes a free upgrade (the reason i got junior suites both time!) ...
