...Small very atmospheric bar ala club style very close to the Ramblas in the center of the city. It is near placa Catalunya in the center of town. Excellent mix of different sorts of music and dj's: check their site for exact programming or flyers. Very good example of a central small venue for 25-40 year olds in this beautiful city in Spain. Club where you can still easily talk with your friend and enjoy the music on a small dance floor. 2 spaces a red lit bar area, where it is nice to chat and hang out and a also a small dance room with projectors. Advantages: Comfortable, good location for business and transport
Disadvantages: Long walk to main tourist area

...I stayed in this hotel several times in 2004/5 and found it to be an excellent base for business. (I was working in a nearby office). It is also very well placed for transport - as follows:- Taxis always outside, airport about 25 Euros (20 minutes), city centre about 10 Euros (5 minutes), Sants station 200 metres walk - this has an easy ticket machine system to buy tickets for the airport - about 10 Euros, and city centre on the underground train, about 5 Euros. It's possible to walk to the tourist centre, (Place de Catalunya) but this takes around 30 mins and needs careful scrutiny of a map to avoid taking the wrong turning at one of the many intersections. Hotel is smart and well furnished in the modern Barcelona minimalist style. Reception staff speak good English and are very helpful. Bedroom is comfortable and usually quiet... Read review

Advantages: It, um, has a pool
Disadvantages: Breakfast gets boring after a while

...We went to Madrid for a mothers' day treat which meant the mother in the party got to dictate the hotel we stayed at. She wanted somewhere with a pool. Madrid, it turns out, doesn't have that many hotels with indoor pools, and being March, we didn't want to splash around outside. So, I booked the two of us into the Husa Moncloa for 4 nights, which had, in addition to a pool, a good looking location and 4 shiny stars to boot. We arrived by plane and took the Metro to the hotel. This took about 45 minutes, involved one change of line, and cost €1 each. Bargain. For those who prefer to travel in style, a taxi would cost you about €25. Though there's also an airport-city shuttle bus, this stops miles from the hotel, so isn't that convenient.
