Advantages: Great location, comfortable rooms Disadvantages: Not many facilities
The director of the hotel himself describes the Husa Meson Castilla as 'a simple two star hotel, but for those who are watching their budget, it is not only moderately priced, but also well located and offers an old-world ambience'. I would agree whole heartedly with this statement, but don't be put off by the lack of more stars. As you may know, stars are awarded for facilities in a hotel and not the standard of the rooms, etc. Whilst this hotel doesn't have masses of facilities, it does offer better-than-average comfort at very affordable prices.

The location is perfect. Just down a well-lit and fairly buzzing side street off the Ramblas, it's a mere five minute walk to the centre of the action. The nearest underground train station is at the top of the Ramblas (probably an extra two minutes walk) and is called ...
Advantages: Close to the centre, on the metro line, friendly bi-lingual staff, comfortable rooms Disadvantages: Very thin walls
My partner and I chose to take a short trip to Madrid for 5 nights and as we'd managed to get very cheap flights thought we would stay in a nicer hotel with a pool. Unfortunately as it was March we didn't think an outdoor pool would be appropriate and it seems that there are very few hotels in Madrid with indoor pools. We eventually stumbled across a website for the 4* Husa Moncloa and were excited by the images of fantastic looking rooms and a beautiful looking pool. We were however a little confused to see the same pool image on the website for the sister hotel, Husa Princesa. Nevertheless we went ahead and booked as we knew that the sister hotel was virtually next door and guessed that facilities must be shared between the two.
Arriving at Madrid airport we opted to take a taxi into the city, we could have taken the metro had ...
Advantages: It, um, has a pool Disadvantages: Breakfast gets boring after a while
We went to Madrid for a mothers' day treat which meant the mother in the party got to dictate the hotel we stayed at. She wanted somewhere with a pool. Madrid, it turns out, doesn't have that many hotels with indoor pools, and being March, we didn't want to splash around outside. So, I booked the two of us into the Husa Moncloa for 4 nights, which had, in addition to a pool, a good looking location and 4 shiny stars to boot.
We arrived by plane and took the Metro to the hotel. This took about 45 minutes, involved one change of line, and cost ?1 each. Bargain. For those who prefer to travel in style, a taxi would cost you about ?25. Though there's also an airport-city shuttle bus, this stops miles from the hotel, so isn't that convenient. For getting around, the hotel is well situated a mere 50m from a metro stop (Arguelles) served by ...
