There is no real separation between the two, Kensington Gardens becomes Hyde Park by passing the Serpentine, (an 11 hectare huge lake, created in 1730, and where people can rent boats on a Sunday afternoon to relax), and the West Carriage Drive, or the Ring, as it is commonly known. When I was 16 years old, many years ago, I went to six form college just off High Street Kensington, and I lived in a youth hostel, just off Notting Hill Gate. To get to college from the hostel, I had the choice between taking a bus, the underground or walking. Having tested all three possibilities, I soon abandoned the first two for the third. It was actually faster to cross Kensington gardens than to take (and especially, to wait for) public transport, not to mention the visual appeal difference. With my walk-man on my ears, (Burning Spear or other ragga or punk sounds at that time) going to college was rather pleasant, thanks to the stroll across the end bit of Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens.
۩۞۩๑๑۩۞۩There is no real separation between the two, Kensington Gardens becomes Hyde Park by passing the Serpentine, (an 11 hectare huge lake, created in 1730, and where people can rent boats on a Sunday afternoon to relax), and the West Carriage Drive, or the Ring, as it is commonly known. Hyde Park was originally, in 1536, a closed deer park, used for hunting when Henry VIII acquired the manor of Hyde. It was only in 1637 that Charles I opened the park to the public. In 1689, William III made of Nottingham house, his official home, Kensington Palace, which later became the birth place of Queen Victoria and Queen Mary (the actual queens grand mother). When I was a teenager, it was the home of Lady Di, and I often saw helicopters land and take off from the Palace gardens with members and guards of the royal family. This is apparently the only major change in the last 20 years, now, a monument to Lady Di stands in Hyde Park, just south of the Serpentine.A year later, I moved to the Marble Arch area, and although from there, the walk to college, off High Street Ken. through the park was a very long one, (4km), I'd sometimes do it, just for the pleasure to get out of the polluted city. Near the Marble Arch entrance to Hyde Park, there is the famous "Speakers corner", where whoever feels up to it can just stand up and preach what he/she feels. Now this can get funny, or, on the contrary, dodgy. Whilst police are normally quite tolerant, they do interrupt obscene language, unlawful topics, or manifestations. Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin or George Orwell are just a few famous past speakers of Speakers Corner, Hyde Park.
۩۞۩๑๑۩۞۩
The park consists of open areas of lawn with forest sections as well as cultivated and elaborated gardens. It covers, in all, 142 hectares with over 4,000 trees. The most common activities within the park are walking, dog walking, roller skating, pigeon/duck feeding, rowing, horse riding, playgrounds, cycling, students revising, homeless people sleeping on the benches or sunbathers etc. Occasionally a concert is given in the park, and the lakes (there is also a second small lake called the Round Pond) attract wildfowl whom are protected from country side hunters.
To get to Hyde Park there are many entrances. It is situated in the very heart of London, with directly around it some grand monuments such as the Royal Albert Hall (and Albert Memorial), Crystal Palace, Kensington Palace, The Lanesborough (one of London's most expensive hotels), Marble Arch (which is the beginning of Oxford Street), and the Knightsbridge area, home to Harrods, of course. If you want to take the Underground there, you have a choice between Notting Hill Gate, High Street Kensington, Queensway, Lancaster Gardens, Marble Arch or Knightsbridge. I won't even try to enumerate all the bus stops!
۩۞۩๑๑۩۞۩
In the park, the Serpentine Lido has a pool, a bar and restaurant, there is a tennis club, a horse riding arena, putting and bowls hire, otherwise informally, there are often football, touch rugby, cricket, softball, rounders and Frisbee matches. So if you're in London and in need of peace and quite, away from the city rat-race, head to Hyde Park, it's like an oasis in the desert, if I dare say! Thanks for reading!
Advantages: Lots of things to do and see, a nice break from the city Disadvantages: The weather will definitely affect how good a time you have!
Hyde Park
~*~*~*~*~*~
Hyde Park is located, basically, in the middle of some of the busiest areas of London. Stepping through the gates magically transports you from the busy traffic, shops and rush of the city to lakes, long stretches of grass and trees and lots of wildlife!
Getting There
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Hyde Park covers a massive 350 acres and is therefore quite hard to miss! There are entrances to it all the way around. The Hyde Park website ... ...Marble Arch (central line) and Hyde Park Corner and Knightsbridge (Piccadilly line). They advise against visiting by car due to limited parking spaces - in my opinion you should drive in London as little as possible!
What is there to do?
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
If you have children they will adore the park and definitely find something to do, whether it’s playing in one of the huge playgrounds, swimming, or feeding the ducks and squirrels!

Advantages: An exit from the art race Disadvantages: None
Hyde park was once a deer park for Henry the 8th when all that surrounded it was countryside, now just under half a millenium later the surrounding city doesn't hinder it's beauty. The size of the park is sufficient to get away from the fumes, hustle and bustle and noise of London city. If your visiting London for the first time Hyde park is a must, It goes with Big Ben, the tower of London and all things cockney. Hyde park is also a centre of sport ...

Advantages: A green lung. Quite a lot to see and do Disadvantages: Can occasionally get almost crowded
In my opinion Hyde Park is one of the great attractions of a great city. It is a wonderful bit of greenery virtually in the heart of London. It is a surprisingly large park as you soon find out when you start strolling around it on a sunny sunday.
Not only does it offer a restful respite from the hustle and bustle it can also be a fun place, a meeting spot and a place to enjoy some verbal gymnastics. I am told people dive into at Christmas time. You will also see people jogging, sun bathing and exercising their horses in Hyde ...

Advantages: Beautiful views, beautiful park Disadvantages:
I recently walked past Hyde park at about 10:00pm, and was reminded of what a truly beautiful place it is. What makes it so special I think is its position - it is smack bang in the middle of the nicest area in London - right next to the Albert Hall (and the beautiful Albert Memorial), with views stretching to Parliament and the Hilton. It is also beautifully manicured and all the paths are perfectly smooth - a skater's dream. And, what's more, it's ...

Advantages: Huge but welcoming Disadvantages: Often toooo busy
Hyde Park used to be a royal hunting ground, was once a venue for duels, executions and horse racing, and even became a giant potato field during WWII. It is now a place of fresh air, spring colour and lazy sunbathers. With 340 acres of green space, Hyde Park has plenty to offer with a variety of attractions, formal gardens and spacious woodlands.
It contains the Serpentine, a lake used for swimming, boating and fishing; Rotten Row, the world famous ... ...a Sunday morning. Hyde Park even houses a Pet Cemetery (not of the Stephen King variety).
In summer, there are weekend and bank holiday concerts at the bandstand. Despite its heavy use, the Park manages to convey an air of rural tranquillity much valued by both tourists and local users. ...

Advantages: Outstanding Views, best hotel in London i've stayed at Disadvantages: couldn't fault it
I stayed at this Hotel last year, and have been to London 4 times since. Ive stayed in over 10 hotels in the capital and can honestly say this has been my favourite hotel.
The views over HydePark were gorgeous and gave a lovely view of the london eye, and the flight path. The rooms were a good size and layed out well. It wasn't unclean at all.
The staff were extremely helpful and went out their way to help you. The breakfast was gorgeous and provided a great choice.
The hotel was close to the local tube station, and close to notting hill and shops. It was central to oxford street and all that London has to offer, without been slap bang in the middle.
Only downfall i suppose ( the only one) was that it was upstairs to a petrol station yet it wasnt a problem for me.
I would recommend this hotel 100% and enjoyed my stay. ...
Advantages: Ideally located for most of London Disadvantages: Limited evening eating.
The Corus hotel is based at Lancaster Gate, London. Rather nicely it sits opposite HydePark which gives you an opportunity to spend some relaxing time of a morning or evening.
Checking in
As I arrived at my hotel (paid for by my company) I was quite pleasantly surprised, in the Lobby the walls are covered with a beige marble; this then turns to white paintwork. My initial impression was that the location was a bit fancy for a company placement. I was cheerfully greeted by Wee Wee and Wee Lee who took a lot of time and effort to explain the hotel facilities, the surrounding location and how easy it was to reach my room. This was by far the most professional reception I have ever received in a London hotel.
The Room
My room had a price tag of £89 per night which included a full English breakfast. My room number was 310 ...
Advantages: a British institution Disadvantages: not as good as it used to be
Does everybody who uses the words 'Speakers Corner' (from now on SC) know what they're talking about? That this is really a location: the north eastern corner of HydePark, near Marble Arch, London, UK?
The words have left the location, aren't only the name of a place any more, they have become a term and are now used worldwide to describe . . . what actually?
Certainly politicians in Singapore hadn't studied the subject closely when they decided to allow a SC on September 1, 2000. According to Reuters news agency: "The Singapore government announced it would launch the forum because it wanted greater public involvement, conducted in a 'mature, non-agitated way.'...Speakers must register for a permit and speeches may be recorded by the police . . . The police department said before the corner's opening that uniformed officers ...
