There was huge galleried seating, and, in front of it all, there was a massive screen - in fact it was the world's biggest! The film was amazing - it began as if you were in a helicopter - and it sure felt like it! We all felt we needed seatbelts!
We did have to wait an hour to get in - but the wait was worth it, and there were interesting exhibits - related to the film - to look ... ...way so that the person's head in front doesn't irritate you, and it works.
But, what surprised me, is that there was no popcorn available. Surprising if you consider this is the world's largest screen cinema!
Well, anyway, it was worth the wait and the money - and it was the highlight of my day.
A truly mindblowing experience!

Advantages: 3D like never before Disadvantages: Being inside on a sunny day
Sydney's IMAX Theatre in Darling Harbour is home to the world's largest movie screen at a whopping 80 storeys high! The building itself is the shape of an eye, decorated in yellow and black aluminium checks, which was designed by and Australian architect by the name of Lionel Glendinning. The IMAX Theatre shows films in both 2D and 3D although it's not like your conventional cinema screenings.
IMAX is open 365 days a year and shows films on the ... ...I would highly recommend the IMAX to anyone who hasn't been before, a truly amazing experience and most definitely a cut above the red and green cardboard specs we used to get.

Advantages: Largest screen in the UK Disadvantages: Not one near me
...Recently I took a sightseeing trip to London with my mum and my twelve year old daughter Becca. Scandalized by the prices demanded for West End theatre we opted for the cinema instead. It's sometimes difficult to choose an attraction which will appeal to all age groups and I hoped that a film would appeal to all three of us. Nothing at the conventional cinemas seemed suitable, I quite fancied Brokeback Mountain but it had a 15 certificate which meant age-wise Becca wouldn't get in and mental age-wise I wouldn't. I also wanted to see the March of the Penguins but would have felt guilty as my nine year old son was not with us and he's obsessive about penguins.
We compromised on the IMAX cinema on the South Bank, basically because it sounded interesting and different. I had heard it was rather large and the films shown were in 3D so...

Advantages: Massive Screen Disadvantages: ticket prices quite high
...I havent been to the Imax in a while but I love it when I do go. The last thing I went to see there was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ( the last one to be released) and it was amazing!
I went to the Imax in Waterloo and it is massive. It is located on the South Bank and is about 5 minutes walk from Waterloo station. You cannot miss the building due to its sheer size and colour effects.
It seats around 500 people in each screen and the seats are well positioned to give you a good view and plenty of leg room which is a nice change. They also boast about having a screen that is 20 metres high and 26 metres wide and have an 11,600-watt sound system.
Ticket prices are quite high (unsurprisingly). An adult ticket costs about £12 and children have to pay £8. The box office is located on the ground floor as soon as you...

Advantages: Great clarity in sound and vision Disadvantages: Overpriced and badly designed
...I'd heard people talking about the iMax long before I ever went there and long before I ever really knew what it even was. I knew it was some kind of cinema and friends used to speak of it in such revered tones that I guessed it was a special cinema, but I never understood what was different about it. So when I was offered the chance to see a film there, I grabbed at it, as much out of curiosity about the venue as a desire to see the film.
Situated on the South Bank of the River Thames, very close to the London Eye and Waterloo Station, the iMax would be a far more eye-catching building if it were either bigger or not surrounded by so many other landmarks. You can see it from the top of the stairs when you exit Waterloo Station as a large, brightly lit up circular building with "360" written all over it.
The size of the building...
