I am always looking for ways to save money and this applies on holidays as well so when i saw that you could get a city pass for a set price i decided to buy it.
The pass can be ordered online at http://www.iamsterdam.com/ as well as other sites such as expedia.com(where i got it).It can then either be sent to you or you can pick it up either at the airport or at the tourist information centre which is outside the central train station. You can get these for most major cities so even if you are not going to Amsterdam it is worth checking to see if the place you are going to offers them. There are 3 passes available which are 24 hours,48 or 72 hours. I don't think they vary in what they offer, just how long they last for. I got the 72 hour pass and this cost 58euros.
With the pass (plastic card) you get a book which is split into sections. You have a list of whats free to get into, places that have 25% discount(including restaurants) and things that are free.
Obviously the savings you get depends on what you do but i took advantage of the following: 72 hour public transport ticket-with this you get free use of the bus, trams and metro system. I think this costs just under 20euros on its own. City canal cruise-There are 2 different cruises to choose from and they cost around 12 euros. I think this is something everyone should do if they visit the city. Free museums-nemo science museum. This is the largest science museum in the Netherlands and is interactive so i think kids and adults alike will love it. Others include van gough museum, tassen museum etc .I think there are 27 free museums alltogether.
The 25% offer applies to places such as artis royal zoo, madame tussauds, heineken experience and the amsterdam dugeon.
There are also some vouchers in the back of the book offering you some freebies such as coffees here,a free gift from the bijenkorf department
This pass is well worth it and i saved so much money with it.
Advantages: Nice outside, location Disadvantages: Not what I expected, not really a church anymore!
of the tram routes (1,2,5,14 and more).
The cost depends on the exibition which is being held at the time. When I visited the exibition was on Indonesia and the cost was 10 Euro. However, if you have the IAmsterdamCard, the Nieuwe Kerk is included on this and it is well worth investing in if you plan to do a bit of sightseeing. If you fancy a guided tour then cash in some bonds before you go - its 90 Euros for up to 15 people but seems to be the same price even if its just you! It also has to be booked in advance.
The website claims that all areas of the galleries and facilities are fully accessible for disabled people. I beg to differ. The information about the church itself is on a kind of mezzanine floor, accessed through stairs in the shop, with no lift up to it. The rest of the building is accessible.
THE VISIT:

Advantages: Hillarious, good value Disadvantages: None
or Dam Square and also by trams 6, 7 and 10.
I found the cost very reasonable. We paid to have dinner and the show, which was 36 Euros. Ticket prices for the show on its own vary between 19.50 and 22 Euros. You can also buy dinner seperately which costs 24.95 Euros for 3 courses or 19.95 for 2. The dinner and show combination is cheaper, but you get less choice (although it is still adequate) and you can only have the 2 courses. When you get the combination you also have a drink (wine, beer or soft) thrown in - bargain! If you have the IAmsterdamcard and just want the ticket for the show you get a 25% discount. To eat you need to arrive about 6.15-6.30. The show starts about 8.15 and lasts about 2-2.5 hours.
THE EXPERIENCE:
Firstly the food. I thought it was delicious and so did the rest of my group. I chose not to have ...

the way we did it.) We got on the train at the tail end of rush hour. However, the train was very clean and got us to Amsterdam in 15 minutes.
Once in Amsterdam we headed straight to the V V V. This is the Amsterdam Tourist Board. Here you will find free maps and leaflets on just about everything- including walks, canal tours, sights, exhibitions, transport and accomodation. The staff is multi-lingual (as is most of Amersterdam) and will give you advice, change money, arrange excursions, book tickets and hotels. We bought the "IAMsterdam" 72 hour card.
There are three types of "IAMsterdam" cards
- 24 hour- 33 Euros,
48 hours- 43 Euros and
72 hours- 53 Euros).
