I am always looking for ways to save money and this applies on holidays as well so when i saw that you could get a city pass for a set price i decided to buy it.
The pass can be ordered online at http://www.iamsterdam.com/ as well as other sites such as expedia.com(where i got it).It can then either be sent to you or you can pick it up either at the airport or at the tourist information centre which is outside the central train station. You can get these for most major cities so even if you are not going to Amsterdam it is worth checking to see if the place you are going to offers them. There are 3 passes available which are 24 hours,48 or 72 hours. I don't think they vary in what they offer, just how long they last for. I got the 72 hour pass and this cost 58euros.
With the pass (plastic card) you get a book which is split into sections. You have a list of whats free to get into, places that have 25% discount(including restaurants) and things that are free.
Obviously the savings you get depends on what you do but i took advantage of the following: 72 hour public transport ticket-with this you get free use of the bus, trams and metro system. I think this costs just under 20euros on its own. City canal cruise-There are 2 different cruises to choose from and they cost around 12 euros. I think this is something everyone should do if they visit the city. Free museums-nemo science museum. This is the largest science museum in the Netherlands and is interactive so i think kids and adults alike will love it. Others include van gough museum, tassen museum etc .I think there are 27 free museums alltogether.
The 25% offer applies to places such as artis royal zoo, madame tussauds, heineken experience and the amsterdam dugeon.
There are also some vouchers in the back of the book offering you some freebies such as coffees here,a free gift from the bijenkorf department
This pass is well worth it and i saved so much money with it.
