We went to Spain few weeks ago on a company trip. On the way back, one of my friend arrive at the check in counter a bit late (but still nearly two hour before the flight took off) but the flight was overbooked. Coincidentally, there was an airline strike in France Iberia customer service immediately defended themselves by saying that reason they could not board the flight was because of the strike in France although the fact was that an overbook flight cannot take any more passenger either there is a strike or not ! Instead of finding a solution for the passenger (my friend) immediately and arrange a hotel for them, my friend was directed around the counter. Moreover, Iberia staff did not understand english too well and they were really stuck there. Eventually, Iberia staff came out with this "Excellent" idea by directing them to take the flight back to London through Madrid. When he eventually arrived at Madrid, the Iberia staff their appeared to have no knowledge about this special arrangement and he had to spent lots of effort to explain again. And by the time he got the green light, the flight has already closed. Therefore, he was stuck there in Spain for that night and the whole holiday was screwed !!!

What you say is not true, about the holiday being screwed up - it was actually extended. Sure, such a huge airline in Spain, they're bound to have problems. And they didn't even have to put you in a hotel. Perhaps you could think about this opinion agian. Cheers, danieletheridge.
