I have flown Iberia since my younger days along time ago, and I have experienced great things with this wonderful company, including delays, cancellations, oh, and the occasional ‘on-time’…

AIRCRAFT

Iberia has a modern fleet of new aircraft from both Airbus in Europe and Boeing in America. Iberia also has an aged fleet of 747s and ground handling vehicles. But some 747s are now being withdrawn from service.

There is substantial legroom in all classes on board the majority of Iberia flights, with the new Business Europe an excellent treat and Economy Class not as bad as reputation suggests, indeed better than BA.

CLASSES

Iberia has a wide range of configurations for its aircraft – there are different ‘classes’ on board each plane. The majority of domestic and continental flights will have Economy, and internal flights will have Business Domestic.

European flights will have the all-new Business European which can be found on all A320s, 319s, 321s and also on B757s, 737s and MD88s, inherited from ex-competitor Aviaco, bought by Iberia in 1999.

Economy

Economy on Iberia is quite good. There is more than enough space for you to get your legs in and the service is great. You wont be complaining about the service which comes with a lovely smile, either.

Entertainment is lacking a bit in the continental sector but there’s a good selection of recent films to be watched if you fly on longer-haul flights. Those flights remaining with in Europe do have some light entertainment however.

Business

I have had the privilege of flying business class with Iberia on numerous occasions and every time I have been thoroughly satisfied with the outstanding meals and attentive service, as well as the great lounges.

There is more than enough legroom and Business Intercontinental is a new ‘class’ on Iberia which offers excellent service in comfortable seats, matching the standards of other leading airlines.

First Class

Advancing on BA here, Iberia has launched a new First Class on all Airbus A340s and Boeing 747s. This has to be one of the best classes in existence in the world of today – it is outstanding.

You can do just about anything with your seat, which is far enough away even to not notice the fart drifting from the seat in front of you, and the ‘pocket in the seat in front’ does not exist – it’s too far away!

This really is flying in style – outstanding meals, your own personal screen, laptop recharging facilities – the works. You really can do just about anything in Iberia’s first class – it offers everything you could need.

FOOD

Food on Iberia sets new standards. All flights with their departure in Spain are packed with excellent meals as the Spanish make food a huge priority in their life – that’s why I like Spain so much!

You won’t be let down by Iberia’s high standards and rigorous checks which make sure your journey is a very enjoyable one indeed – it really is a pleasure to eat in an Iberia aircraft and certainly a tasty experience.

ENTERTAINMENT

Just to expand on what I was saying earlier, Iberia’s in-flight entertainment is not brilliant on short-haul flights but not shite either. There are short videos and also the interesting Ronda magazine – in both English and Spanish for those of you who have forgotten your phrasebook.

Longer haul flights involve better entertainment, specially in business and first classes, with individual screens and games for you to mess around with and an excellent selection of the latest films.

STAFF

Unfortunately, staff morale is a bit low at Iberia at the moment as they try and make some unnecessary savings and as a result of September 11th, they have been shedding staff in all areas.

Most staff are okay, but those at the Madrid Barajas hub are notoriously a little rude but Iberia are working hard to improve this to allow for better customer services in the years which follow.

SUMMARY

Iberia is a great airline, looking to the future to make sure that everything is okay. Their fleet is modern, food is great. They have VIP lounges throughout the globe but some staff may be a little rash at Madrid. Recommended!

ive never flowen with these before but they do sound good. I dont worry too much about films etc on short haul flights myself as your not on there long enough to worry about it. At least it sounds good for long haul. I don't think I would mind flying with these. Tracy x
