I flew with Iberia for the first time in August as part of a British Airways codeshare. I had booked with BA the price for the return to Barcelona was only £128 incl tax from Heathrow. So the price was reasonable.
Check in As I was transferring from BMI as I had flown into Heathrow from Belfast, check in was done at the Flight Connections centre. I have never seen a more bored person doing check in in my life , he was slow and really not very helpful , however when I asked for a n emergency exit seat this was granted. Thank goodness BMI had checked the luggage through.
Boarding This was done in seat row order and again no smiles were apparent. I got the seat I booked and the legroom was fine.
In Flight The aircraft was an Airbus A320 which is a relatively new aircraft with a good safety record and the cabin was clean and tidy. The safety announcements were done verbally and repeated on the video monitors. The cold air nozzles above were not switched on so it was a stuffy atmosphere. Once again cabin staff were not too friendly. There was an inflight video of adverts for shops etc in spain. The food was a sandwhich and a yoghurt with a coffee and the drink from the bar, I asked for a vodka and tonic but they had no Vodka and had only just started serving so pretty poor show on that front.
Arriving The flight arrived on time and we disembarked fine, the luggage reclaim was very slow and we did not see a bag until at least half an hour after arriving but that may be the airport and not the airline.
Overall Iberia is a stae owned airline and has difficulty moving to the more competitive environment. It will have to do alot better if it is to comptete effectively and be a useful part of the Oneworld alliance with British Airways etc

I met my boyfriend in Barcelona :). Have great memories of that place. Didn't fly with Iberia though, we had a 36 hour coach journey to get to Barcelona! Reckon I could definitely put up with unenthusiastic staff and a half hour baggage wait instead of that length of journey! Love, Corinne.

Why do these airlines never understand that good customer service is essential. How much does it cost to uncourage smiles and politeness and yet it makes all the difference...MANDXX

Advantages: One of the cheapest airlines to South America, the food isnt too bad Disadvantages: Short flights have no free water, some of the planes are a bit cramped
