Having read a variety of reviews around the internet about Iberia, I was not looking forward to the flight with the one world partner. This flight was from LHR (Heathrow) to BIO (Bilbao). Check in was smooth, no queues, and we had time to relax in the departures lounge prior to walking to the gate. The departure gate in Terminal 2 was quite fortunate, as we had to walk for less than a minute to gate 4, very close to Departures Lounge.
The staff were very happy to greet us while boarding the plane, speaking in Spanish, really got me into the holiday spirit! The seats were very comfortable throughout the flight. This may have been because the flight was only 1hour 30mins. We took off on time an arrived early.
The only downside in my opinion, was that being a scheduled airline, Iberia surprisingly made us pay for food. The food was very overpriced. I got myself a Sandwich, Water and "Iberia surprise chocolate" for €6. Very expensive, and the food was not that great. Oh well, I was hungry and I guess it wasn't bad for a snack.
I didn't really have a chance to look at shopping because the hostess seemed to speed past with the trolley, possibly they were running late?! But one thing that was good was they had the chance to donate money to the Special Olympics Espania, which is always good when an airline does this.
Arriving at Bilbao, landing was calm and we were taken through security and got our luggage very quickly.
Be aware at Bilbao airport because from the Baggage reclaim, you come out on a mezzanine area and there are no ramps to wheel your trolleys down to the car park/car rentals. You have to struggle with them down an escalator or wait for one of two lifts (at the time, one was broken so imagine the queues).
All in all Iberia is a great airline, and I would definately fly with them again!
