We were supposed to fly out on a Tuesday afternoon. On Friday afternoon we received a phonecall that Iberia cancelled that flight but we could either get our cash back or leave two days late. We chose to go two days late as we had planned this for such a long time and a holiday was loooong overdue. It caused a lot of trouble and stress for us and we did try to contact Iberia. With no luck. I won't go in to too much details but as we lost our connecting flights and could not get other affordable ones for the same day, my South African friends went through a lot of trouble to get us to our final destination and it cost us a lot of money from our holiday budget. Anyway, when we arrived in South Africa after 23 hours of traveling, we were told that our luggage was left behind in Madrid. Things happen. Of course we were not happy but sort of understanding of this. We filled in some forms and went on our way. I was told by another passenger that we should have received a compensation voucher which we could have cashed at the airport so we could buy emergency toiletries etc. We didn't get it but I figured it was okay as I had a number to call. I tried for 2 days to get through to them to find out when our luggage would be due. To no avail. We did not have a clue what was going on and had to cancel our camping trip that first weekend as we were waiting for our own stuff to arrive. Luckily on the second day of our stay we did receive a call from the courier for directions. By that time we had bought some summer clothing and emerency toiletries. (traveling from winter to summer all our summerry outfits were in that lost bag. And clean underwear, toothbrush etc would be nice). On the way back everything went as planned other then that our luggage got badly damaged. Now, I never complained or looked for compensation before this time I was so dissapointed about the loss of the days holidays and the extra stress it caused that I did read up on my rights and contacted them. And what really made me angry (besides the unfriendly staff on the planes) is that Iberia have not even responded to my polite letters at all. Standard reply to notify me of receipt of the email and that is it. Now that is making me determinded not to let this go at all. Loesie.
