We have just returned from the Torviscas Playa (September 2007). On first impressions, I wasn't sure as the building looking like it needed a little paint. However, once inside the hotel is clean and well kept with shiny marble floors everywhere. The Reception staff are efficient and really friendly. On arrival the Hotel supplies a small token orange drink, which we thought was a nice touch. The Hotel is in Costa Adeje and is very near to shops, bars, restaurants and a pharmacist. Playa das Americas is not that far away but you would need a taxi. There is even a Pharmacist
across the road. Its very close to the beach and there are steps from the hotel, so not good for prams but you can get to the beach another way, which takes an extra 5mins. The Reception and bar area on the ground floor is very spacious with comfortable sofas and chairs. The Restaurant is on the lower-ground floor of the hotel. There are 3 separate pools and a children's pool. The pool side is clean and there was always enough sun-beds and lots have comfortable mattresses. Be warned the pool is VERY cold, so non-swimmers might find it a little uncomfortable. Umbrellas are a little scarce but we managed to get one everyday. You do get the normal sun-bed bandits at the crack of dawn, but then you expect that at most hotels. You can pay a deposit to higher towels and you get this back when you leave.
Room We treated ourselves to one of the Junior Suits overlooking the pool and sea. There are not many rooms that over-look the sea, so you would have to obtain a suite to have this luxury. The room was really big with twin beds joined together. There is a small seating area in the room. The room was lovely and I couldn't fault it at all. The view was fantastic. The bathroom has a powerful shower, modern and clean and we always had hot water. My husbund was a bit worried because there was a little window in the bathroom (fear of being watching whilst on the loo!) I assured him a person would have to climb over the balcony and I'm sure people of better things to do. The TV was a bit rubbish but then they always are when abroad. The Rooms were cleaned every day and the clears were friendly and efficient. The room was lovely and I was sad to leave it at the end of the holiday.
Food The food is buffet style but they have a couple of chefs cooking the meat and fish while you wait. They do have a food theme every night, so the menu does alter on a daily basis. We stayed there for 1 week and apart from salad and pasta counter, I can't remember eating anything twice. I mainly ate from the Vegetarian counter, not because I'm a vege but because it was really nice. They have a selection of pizza also. Breakfast was again nice, continental, English, Cereal, Fruit, Cakes and pastry selection. The tea is like dish-water so if you an addict, I would invest in some bags. There is a little elbow bashing going on when queuing up for the meat section and my patience did run out a few times, which spoilt dinner a little. Having said that I couldn't complain because overall the food is nice and very edible.
Entertainment A show is on at 21:30 every night but my toddler was screaming due to exhaustion by that time, so I cannot comment whether it had the X-Factor of not. There is a small band for the competitive ball-room dancers every evening. There is a children's disco every night at 20:30-21:00. Smiley the Hotel's mascot appears and the children love him. The Clown does a very convincing dance and is brilliant with the kiddies. During the day there is keep fit classes/yoga/bingo/archery and probably much more.
Staff They are brilliant and really friendly. I don't think I've ever been anywhere that the staff have been so nice and they really look like the enjoy their jobs. The waiters loved my Son and made a fuss of him all the time. They were natural and kind with all the children and to us. They actually made our holiday much more enjoyable and was probably one of the best assets the hotel has to offer.
