Advantages: Great location, cheap, clean Disadvantages: Budget hotel
I stayed at the Ibis Stopera in Amsterdam in April 2006 with two friends and would definitely recommend it for anyone who it looking for a budget hotel that can be relied on.
For anyone who hasn't stayed in an Ibis hotel before I would describe them as a superior travelodge. In other words, no matter which one you go to, you generally know what you're getting. Always clean and a good service. There was also a bar.
For three girls on a budget the Ibis Stopera was perfect as they have triple rooms available, this made it a very reasonable rate when split between the three of us - and this included breakfast (which was very nice). We had a lovely ground floor room which looked out onto the canal at the back of the hotel.

Advantages: Proximity to station, bus stop Disadvantages: Slightly difficult to find, poor breakfast
On our latest European city visit, we decided to stay at the Ibis Wescorner. It was well located outside the bustling city centre in the Transformatorweg of Amsterdam Sloterdijk. The directions we printed off the hotel website were not too clear, however we asked a couple people who pointed us in the right direction. There was also a bus stop conveniently located outside which we used to get into Amsterdam Centraal in just under 15 minutes.
The service at the hotel was average for a hotel of that standard, although we were able to purchase bus passes in the lobby for around £10. The staff were professional and courteous and made sure they mentioned that they would look into ...
Advantages: Nice enough hotel, good for meetings Disadvantages: Keep in mind the time you need to transfer to the airport
and charge well over the odds for their proximity. And the third group - the Cinderellas of airport hotels - are the off-airport hotels, often offering cheap (or not so cheap) room and parking deals and far too often, not as close to the airport as you'd expect them to be.
Last week I needed a room for an overnight stop at Amsterdamairport and when the two hotels at the airport came back with ridiculous prices in the £250-350 per room range, our secretary put her foot down and booked me into the Mercure AmsterdamAirport at a price of Euro135 for the night. My first reaction was horror - but I calmed down once I realised I was confusing the Mercure with the Ibis (another in the Accor hotel chain) where I'd once spent a very noisy and uncomfortable night. Once I knew it wasn't the Ibis, I was fine and quite happy to save a load of money ...
