Advantages: A great traditional restaurant in the historical city of Evora Disadvantages: A little difficult to find.
...The Alentejo has always been known for its traditional regional recipes and about twenty years ago when I first started visiting this dry, sunny region the area only had a handful of restaurants. Travellers nowadays can select restaurants with care and can expect a more gastronomic experience. Especially in Evora you will be spoilt for choice.
Fialho is a restaurant that is tucked away down a little side street off the Praca Joaquim Antonio de Aguar and can be difficult to find. While chefs in other restaurants in Evora are taking the Alentejan traditions in new, lighter directions, the Fialho still remains a shrine to traditional Alentjan cooking.

...The historic city of Évora is located in the south of Portugal, in the region of Alto Alentejo. Évora has its origins in the Roman times and vestiges from that period can still be seen all over this beautiful walled town. In 1986, UNESCO has recognized Évora’s international heritage value by declaring it a World Heritage City. This honoured title is in itself a promise to the visitor that the historic city of Évora has a lot to offer.
The region is predominantly agricultural and reminds me of Lincolnshire in the UK. Vast...

...A low budget weekend getaway (thanks to National Express for the £1 each way offer!) called for a low cost hotel. I remembered someone saying that the Accor family member Etap now had a hotel in Sheffield but, situated by the Don Valley Stadium, it was a little too far out of town to be practical for such a short stay. As I am now the proud owner of an Accor hotels loyalty card I decided to check the Accor website and see if any other reasonably priced hotels presented themselves and this was how we came to choose the Ibis. I know this will sound strange to those readers who like a certain ?standard? of accommodation but I have rarely considered Ibis hotels because I?ve always thought them to be pricey; in any case I tend to look at hostel and bed and breakfast accommodation before I look at hotel options.
We were quoted £49...

Arrived at the hotel at around 1pm on Friday 19th December. We eventually found the car park even though it was not sign posted at all (little side street to left of the Ibis and right behind the building). Giving the time of year we were relieved to... more
