The Ibis, Plymouth is without doubt a very nice place to stay. It is certainly better than Travel Lodge/ Travel Inn and cheaper.
The Ibis is easy to find as it is on the main dualcarriageway when entering the city. It is also on a hill so you can spot the green/red sign in good time. Pulling up at the Ibis offers ample parking and the reception is well sign posted. There are only 51 rooms. There is even parking for a coach/mini bus.
The rooms are good value - £46.95 weekdays and weekends. This is for peak season, but during the off season prices are about £2 per night cheaper. Prices are per room and not per person. The reception is situated in the bar/restaurant - which can be a pain if you arrive late on a saturday evening. At best i have only seen 2 staff on serving at reception, but they also cover the bar and restaurant.
The rooms are very european, which make a nice change. Well decorated with jazzy colours and are of good size. All come with the usual TV, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities. There are a couple of freeview channels so you get more selection. Thereis table and chairs in as well so you get somewhere to sit. All are carpeted with one large wardrobe. The front doors have credit card keys which are fun, and what a luxury now you get a small porch before you enter another door into your room. The beds are king size but are quite low, there are lamps both sides. The bathrooms are excellent, very modern and spacious but the bath is excellent if you are 4ft, not to worry as there is a shower over the bath. Towels etc are all provided. The rooms also have atelephone in so you can call out or call the restaurant and order food, excellent.
The restaurant is only a 20 second walk from the furthest room up a few steps. It is small with a smoking and non smoking section. There are high chairs and the tables come in varying sizes, i have never fely cramped i here. And despite the lack of apparent staff service can be quite good. The menu is limited to a few choice option but it caters for all tastes. The tables are clean and tidy and never left like the previous people left half their meal behind on it. The bar is within the restausrant serving good array of drinks, and i find everything is priced OK.
The Ibis has rooms for disabled and they accept pets which is good, it is only a 10mins drive to the sea front or 10 mins the otherway and you are at dartmoor. It is also right next to the Plymouth Ski Slope.
You can arrange wake up calls but breakfast is not included in the price. Breakfast is £4.25 per person and is european style. Their breakfast is awesome, warm fresh baguettes, cheese, ham, eggs, fresh coffee. You get cereal, yoghurts, toast etc, but again it makes a change not to get a fry up.
You pay the bill on living and i believe checkout is 10am in the morning and check in is 4pm in the afternoon.
Overall the Ibis is very good hotel to stay in, we always stay here now and nowhere else. Everything has a fresh, clean feel and for once not feeling so english.
