IBIS hotel - Swindon

Advantages: Cheap, easy to find, friendly helpful staff
Disadvantages: Needs refurbishing

My wife and I stayed at the IBIS hotel in West Swindon last weekend as we were going to a friends 40th birthday party that evening and neither us fancied the lengthy drive home in the early hours of the morning.

We booked in for 1 night, planning to arrive on Saturday afternoon and leave on Sunday morning.

We chose the IBIS because we wanted a budget hotel and because it was located very close to where the party was ...
...anytime after mid-day and didn't have to vacate our room until mid-day either so we could have a lie-in after the party if we needed to.

~~ Booking ~~

As I had found this hotel using the web, it made sense to book the same way - this can be done from the IBIS website (www.ibishotels.com/ibis) quite easily and you receive a confirmation email straight away with your reservation number.

Oxford - City of dreaming students... or spires.

Advantages: Lots to see, pretty.
Disadvantages: Students, students, prices..and did I mention students?

I'll start this review like the one I did about Bath - don't stay in Oxford - stay in Swindon. Same reason applies in that the Swindon hotels are half the price. In case I upset salem witch I'll say that Swindon is great - the Delta Business Park Ibis is top notch. To get to Oxford take the bus from Swindon. It takes about an hour and the fare is around £5.00. Buses are about a one hour journey, leave every hour, and the Oxford bus station is near the centre of town. There's not much to say about the terminus itself - big, concrete and lots of buses. You could be anywhere. Once you get out of there, the whole place changes - you're obviously in a busy but pretty city with prices to match. We had breakfast in a little creperie (to anyone else it's a pancake place but hey - this is Oxford). Once breakfast was finished and we had ...
