The hotel Ibis Praha City belongs to the Accor chain of Hotels which include many others such as Novotel. The decision was based generally because we had not visited Prague before and wanted the assurance of a Hotel Chain and a good location.
The hotel is described as the Ibis Wencelas Square (which is 5 minutes walk from the hotel). Booked direct through the Ibis website we got a reservation with nothing to pay until we checked out of the hotel. The option to reserve e the room was an excellent idea (but with drawbacks) and for the two of us for two nights it cost £149 for a double room. This was the price stated on the website, but booked and shown in Euros 214. The prices are stated in euros at the hotel. The only thing we found is that when you check out you pay in CZK and after exchange rates etc it came to £160.
We would most likely look around next time we go to find a reservation with the hotel that works out much cheaper, possibly from a online agent.

Single 95 Double/Twin 107 Extra Bed 12 (Unsure where an extra bed would be placed) Pets 12.30 Breakfast 9 PP Parking 15.15
The prices are per night except the breakfast and are for every day of the week unlike some hotels where you pay a higher rate at the weekends.
The hotel has parking facilities under the hotel and has 100 private spaces.
The hotel has 181 rooms which are small but comfortable. Along with the bed is a Colour satellite TV with the usual satellite channels and radio. The TV has 22 channels of which 4 are English and include CNN, SKY NEWS, BBC WORLD, EUROSPORT. Their is one German channel MTV which shows programmes mostly in English with German subtitles.
The
bathroom is small, but very clean, with white tiles and has a fresh look. Their is no bath but a walk in shower with temperature controls. Little extras such as shower caps are not provided but a Shower/ShampooDove wash is provided and is on the wall next to the shower and a moisturising hand wash is provided next to the sink. Reception provides extras such as Toothbrush/Paste, Shavings sets and Condoms at a price.
A telephone is situated by the bed and the cost of a unit is 8.5CZK (approx 20p). The usage of units will vary on the destination of the call made. A Zlatι (Czech Yellow Pages) is provided which is self explanatory.
Their is no closed wardrobe but an open fitting in the corner of each room. You can place any folded items on the shelfs and hang your shirts etc on the hangers provided, their is not a great deal of room for masses of clothes, but the rooms are really only suitable for two maximum!
We were with friends and our room had a door which provided access to theirs, this was great because it gave the rooms a much more spacious feel. This sort of access would also be suitable for familys. You could always lock the door should you want privacy!
Dont expect much views out the windows unless your at the front, which is also not very busy at all. So a good nights sleep is not hard to get.
Security at the hotel is ok, I dont know what else to say other than the hotel has no formal security guards (but it does not really need them). A porter usually is in and around the reception area along with a 24hr reception staff! He is very helpful, although we didnt require his services he was more than happy to take our bags to our room (most probably expecting a tip, but we only had two bags between four of us). The lifts provided a swipe card reader which had to be swiped with your room key before the lifts allowed you to select a floor and for it to move. A little disappointed to find no safety deposit box in the room, after looking up on Prague, we found that pickpockets were a major problem in and around the city centres and on trams etc especially in croweded areas! Signs were posted everywhere to be careful of pickpockets! Safety deposit boxes were provided but were at reception which although was a safe and reliable solution to Pragues problems, it was a little inconvieniant.
Reception was indeed an always pleasant experience. The reception staff would drop everything to help you. They were great to offer advice on places to visit, how to get from A - B and back again! The reception area was small and cosy, surrounding the desk was various information on local attractions and events. Maps were also available for purchase.
Business users could make use of the Business Centre in reception. The business centre consisted of a small room with a computer and printer.
The use of the internet was 179CZK (approx £4) for an hours use, the printer could be used and no charges were placed for the use of printing anything out!! So a valuble place to find out more local information, which we used it for.
Once you have paid for your internet access you are provided with a T-Mobile Wireless Hotspot Card (similar to a Pay and Gomobile top up card). After entering a lengthy username and your password you are connected. A high speed connection of 11mps which was very unreliable, it kept disconnecting when we were flicking through the pages, so having to start all over again!! Not good for business users who would use it for internet banking or work maybe? The card was not also usable again, any remaining time had to be used there and then, you could not log off and use it again at a later date.
As mentioned before a Novotel is right next door to the Ibis and is part of the same group of hotels. This enables people in the Ibis to take advantage of the facilities next door. A sauna, indoor pool and fitness centre are available for a charge.
The two hotels have their own cars parked outside which provide a taxi service to various places. Here is a bit of advice, if you want to get in and around prague city centre then AAA taxis is a local taxi firm, they are very cheap, extremely reliable and provide English speaking operators. We also opted for them to take us back to the airport (because they were so cheap) but in the end we would have been better to use the hotels taxi, it would have worked out much cheaper.Ibis/Novotel Taxi Prices:
Although the prices are very cheap the sightseeing tour probably would be a good idea for a first day if you were there for longer. We was only there for two days so we just had to get out and have a look, we had already planned what we wanted to do.The Ibis chain offers a 15minute satisfaction contract. Should a problem arise which they are responsible for and cannot rectify it in 15 minutes then you will be a guest with them (basically you will not pay for your stay). The contract is 24hrs so you should have no problems getting any issues resolved! The leaflet with it on also contains a nice 15 minute workout to relax yourself and calm you down, looks a little like yoga!!
The hotel is partnered with Europcar to offer car hire. But before you go maybe you should shop around for the best price. But if you have not been before then public transport is excellent and reliable!! Most of the streets in and around prague have one way systems with trams and lots of traffic on them. So maybe car hire for first timers would not be a great idea!
Full buffet breakfast is from 6.30am to 10am Bar is open from 10am until 1am Restaurant L'Estaminet is open from 12pm until 10.30pm
The above restaurant also plays a part as the hotels own bar/restaurant. This is where breakfast is served. Menus were provided in the rooms but were all in German, English ones were available from the actual restaurant. Prices are reasonable, much cheaper than the hotel own prices in the UK! Nice little restaurant which offers 10% off Meals, Beer, Wine, and Soft drinks between 3pm and 5pm every day!
The location of the hotel offered easy access to all the great attractions Prague has to offer. Even if you cannot work out the public transport system (which took us a while) the taxis are cheap enough. Tram stops are only five minutes walk away, and the hotel is within the Prague 2 area of the city centre. All the areas of Prague are numbered. The further from Prague 1 your go the less expensive the hotels are. Thats why we chose the Ibis Prague City. It was within a reasonable distance from the centre and not to expensive.
Overall very pleased with the hotel!! But the constant warnings of pickpockets all over the internet and placarded all over the trams etc did put a bit of a damper on the break! We were constantly checking our pockets and watching ourselves in crowded places. But relax a little and make sure you are safe and their is nothing to worry about at all. Make sure you have a camera take a look at the historic buildings and scenery and enjoy yourself!!
