Ibis Sheffield - the heat is on, no it's off again!

Advantages: Good location, good value for money
Disadvantages: No additional facilties

A low budget weekend getaway (thanks to National Express for the £1 each way offer!) called for a low cost hotel. I remembered someone saying that the Accor family member Etap now had a hotel in Sheffield but, situated by the Don Valley Stadium, it was a little too far out of town to be practical for such a short stay. As I am now the proud owner of an Accor hotels loyalty card I decided to check the Accor website and see if any other reasonably ...
...to choose the Ibis. I know this will sound strange to those readers who like a certain “standard” of accommodation but I have rarely considered Ibis hotels because I’ve always thought them to be pricey; in any case I tend to look at hostel and bed and breakfast accommodation before I look at hotel options.

We were quoted £49 for a double room (including a £10 discount) with a bonus multi-media package, usually costing £9.99 for 24 ... more

Value for Money

Cheap and cheerful

Advantages: In the City Centre
Disadvantages: No Car Parking

If you're looking for a good value hotel close to all the facilities of Sheffield - then this is the one! It's a 10 minute walk from the bus/rail station or a very short taxi ride that follows the city's one way road system. The main road from the motorway, the Parkway, is very close to the hotel but does not cause any noise pollution to the hotel rooms. The rooms are clean and basic but attractively furnished with a lift to all 6 floors. The breakfast ...
...and snack bar available too. The hotel doesn't have it's own car park but there is a pay and display opposite the entrance to the hotel. A short walk, uphill, you will find the stop for the tram which gives you a direct link to Meadowhall - a shoppers paradise! - as well as the Arena, Don Valley Stadium, Ice Sheffield and other city attractions. A wide choice of restaurants are also in the vacinity of this hotel and the reception staff are only ...

FANCY A BIT OF FRENCH

Advantages: clean, comfortable, inexpensive
Disadvantages: limited range of facilities

include a serve yourself continental breakfast when under the Holiday Inn banner. Now you will find that a small charge of £4.50 is made for breakfast. Excellent value and it saves you having to get in the car and look for somewhere else, when you?re still bleary eyed. There are plenty of cereals, fruit, lashings of coffee, tea, fruit juices or hot chocolate. You can help yourself to toast and preserves, plus cheese and cold meats. Plenty indeed to set yourself up for the day in hand. Situated on the outskirts of Rotherham, South Yorks, the IBIS 'ROTHERHAM' (in fact Bramley is it?s true location) is an ideal place to stay if you are visiting any of the attractions in the Sheffield area - the Don Valley Stadium, Meadowhall Shopping Centre, Pond Forge Swimming Pool or Sheffield Arena. The hotel is situated just a stone's throw from Junction ...

FANTASTIC HOTELS AT BRILLIANT PRICES

Advantages: Superb customer services, great decor, great prices
Disadvantages: I can't afford to live in one

, Manchester (several), Rotherham, Birmingham (several), Liverpool, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Lincoln, Leicester, Coventry, Cardiff, Wellingborough, Luton, Stevenage, London (several), Portsmouth, Southampton and Plymouth. Unbelievably, most of them have a 2 star rating, which is ridiculous. They are much, much better in terms of comfort, style and most crucially SERVICE than much 'posher' ones I've stayed in. Ibis hotels are absolutely fantastic. If you don't believe me, visit their website at www.ibishotel.com or better still, get yourself booked into one and try it for yourself. ...

Review of Ibis London Greenwich, London

Mama Africa - for the mother of all waits

Advantages: Food not bad, fairly good value, comedy worth
Disadvantages: Very slow service, expensive beers

Having used a National Express promotion for cheap coach travel and an Ibis promotion to get a deal on accommodation, we were keen to try to reduce eating out costs too on a weekend trip to Sheffield and decided to see whether there was somewhere appealing to use our Times ?Dine for £15? vouchers. There were a few places listed but none sounded as interesting as UK Mama Africa. An internet search found a glowing review from the local newpaper and the restaurant?s own website showed a sample menu that sounded good. The restaurant is situated in Broomhill, an area heavily populated by students. Around it there are several decent pubs for a pre- or post-dinner drink. We walked from the city centre and it took about twenty minutes; there seemed to be plenty of buses too as well as some parking in side streets near the restaurant ...
