Central Stockholm Hostel

Advantages: Cheap, Centrally located, Free internet,
Disadvantages: underground

I stayed here in September for 3 nights and this is my opinions of this hostel. Location We arrived into Stockholm at around 2pm from a train from Oslo. The hostel is within easy walking distance of the main train station. Although it is only a five or tem minute walk from the train station the directions we recieved from hostelworld were not the most clear and we ended up going the long way round to get to the hostel. The hostel is located just off a busy shopping street and from the train station you need to go down a couple of levels of roads to get to the main street. However things are a bit more complex if arriving by ferry or air and it is avisable to simply get a taxi from either to the main train station or the hostel itself. Our welcome We arrived at the hostel and our welcome was one of the most pleasant ...

Review of City Lodge, Stockholm

'Stockholm in a pint glass'

Advantages: 'Pre-parties', 'Norrlands Guld' and superb transport links.
Disadvantages: High alcohol prices, weak beer and strict bouncers.

, whereby anyone can fish in the city centre without a licence. Over 1.3 million people live in Stockholm, which experiences winter temperatures of around -2°C and +18°C in summer. First Impressions? I flew with Ryanair to the airport known as 'Stockholm Skavsta'. Now you might think this airport is actually in Stockholm, or only a short distance away. However, it took an 80-minute coach journey from the airport to Stockholm's central bus station, so if you plan to fly with Ryanair, just bear this in mind. Having said this, the return coach fare was only 200 Kronor for the 110 mile round trip, offering fantastic value for money at just under £15. After finally making it to Stockholm itself, I was greeted by my friend who explained I then had to fork out another 190 Kronor for a three-day travel pass. However, as I later found out ...

Shopping in Stockholm

Advantages: lots on offer
Disadvantages: on the expensive side

I have yet to meet a person who goes to Stockholm to go shopping, but that does not mean that it is a boring place to shop. Quite on the contrary. Even though Stockholm is Sweden’s capital, shopping is not a particularly rushed experience and it is easy to ignore all the Stockholmers rushing around the way people tend to do in bigger cities. If in the town centre, the main shopping streets are Hamngatan and Drottninggatan. This area is where you can find the department stores, NK and Ahlens for example, shopping centres, for example Gallerian, and second hand clothing shops, for example UFF(excellent value). For antique shops, second hand shops and boutiques, my suggestion would be to go to Gamla Stan, the Old Town. It’s an island, easily accessible from Drottninggatan, and is full of small shops and also art galleries ...
