My impression of this hotel is not a good one there are several major problems I encountered during my stay.

Firstly the room:

There was a layer of dust on the skirting boars thick enough to show it had not been dusted in weeks. The room was also not hovered at all during my stay. The shower room had an extractor fan which not only did not work but it also was thick with dust. The shower tray its self had dirt and grime encrusted in one corner. There was no hair dryer in the room, although you could request one from the reception. There was also no safe in the room for valubles. The TV claimed to receive eight channels, it in fact only received four and only two of these had a watchable picture. The only 'servicing' the room seamed to recieve was for the bed to be very badly pulled together. There was a phone in the room, but this did not work. The bed, well I say bed, was a mattress which was old and tatty dropped on some rasied chipboard.

Next the Restraunt:

Due to the referbishment work the restraunt and bar were in one small area. This would not have been so bad but diners had football and rugby inflicted on them at a loud volume and the staff seemed more interested in watching this than looking after the diners. The food was also of a very low qualiy. I ordered the lemon and black pepper chicken as it sounded good on the menu. The chicken was not only over cooked, dried out and had the taste and texture of what I can only imagine and old boot would be like but it was served stone cold. The chicken had obviously been cooked well in advance and then kept somewhere until it was ordered. This was served with a mound of fried chips (cooked from packet frozen) and two bits of lettuce and a tomato cut in half. This was not worth the £7.50 price tag. As I complained about the chicken at the time I was not charged but this does not excuse the appaling quality of the food. The nachos served whilst I waited for what I had ordered were stale. It was as if the packet had been open for a couple of days already.

The bar area was full of the builders doing the renovation work and members of staff rather than the guests of the hotel.

There is also no room service anything you want to eat outside of the hours of the restraunt have to be collected yorself from the reception.

The walls between the rooms are also quite thin and I had the misfortune of being kept awake on at least two nights by what sounded like drunken parties going on in the rooms in the same corridoor. After pointing this out to the reception I was told that 'yes well we get alot of hen nights and stag nights here as we are a cheap hotel you'll just have to deal with it' This kind of customer service says it all.

Only good point was that the hotel is close to the city and some of the major atractions

When I did send a written complaint into head office the reply I recieved was the standard 'we have many satisfied guests and very few complaints...' letter in reply. For a hotel chain as large as this this type of fobing off complaints is in my view utterly unacceptable.

I have a few hotel reviews on here but this was by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The hotel its self had no redeaming features. If it had not been a horseracing weekend in York at the time I was staying there and I couldn't find a room elsewhere I would have checked out and changed hotels after the first night. It has been given one star as I could not give it zero.

Wow, how disgusting - will stay well away if I'm ever in that area!

I've stayed in this hotel too. I can confirm that it is as bad as you say. Whish I'd read your review before I booked.

Good review. Hotel sounds awful, I have stayed in a couple of other Ibis Hotels and found them to be really good for 3 star, obviously this is one to avoid.
