I stayed in this "hotel" commencing the 1st Nov 2009, and this is what i thought:
Location
The location of the hotel is just outside the center of York, York is a really nice old city with a much history and lots to do as a torist
Parking
The parking of the hotel is around the back of the hotel with only a tiny entrance, it is not signed so difficult to find if you not aware where it is. The amount of parking spaces was lacking to say the least, I arrived at 3pm and found a space no problem but i left for work and arrivved back at 9pm and there was only disabled parking spaces left. There were no realistic off street parking as this was for a max stay of one hour. Although the car park did have signs stating it had CCTV non was visable so dont think the had it.
The Checking In/Out
The people at the check in seemed to have a poor attitude, they were not welcoming as you would expect from a hotel. I was there on business and they did not seem to understand that the priced of the room and food was going back to my company even though my company fully organise everything and send full details through.
The Hotel
From the ouside the hotel looks nice and the entrance is really nice this was to be expected as it bought from the Ramada Jarvis chain but as soon as you leave the entrance and climb the stairs you get to an old, warn out, tatty and dirty red carpet. There were buckets on the stairs catching dripping water
The Room
The bed was comfertable but the covers had blood on and were not replaced for the whole four days. This annoyed me as the blood was on the top of the sheet and should have been easily spotted when making the bed. The tv had a system where you can watch movies for a price and you can watch tv channels 1-5 for free. The bathroom was small (as expected) and had an awfull shower and no bath. The room was clean enough apart from the bed.
The Resturant/ Bar
They were just off the entrance and as such were nice looking. The number of seating was sufficient and the range of drinks available was good.
The Food / Service
In my opinion TERRIBLE. I went to the lady to get a seat on my first night she told me just to sit anywhere, i sat down and had no menu so after the lady reapeared 10 minutes later I asked for a menu to wich she shrugged and had to go get one from another table that had people eating on. The menu was Disgusting, there was food all over it. The food I had:
Sharing Starter Hot and Spicy Platter- Very nice, Sun dried tomates on ciabatta - The bread was awful and stale
Tuna Steak - Overcooked and dry, Chicken in reagge reagge sauce- The chicken was nice enough but the sauce was freezing cold
The Service each time I ate there was terrible, it took forever to get the food which lacked in quality
Overall
The hotel was less than basic and standard. I would only recomend this hotel if you were not going to spend much time there and not eat there.
I have tried to add advantages to this hotel as I went along but struggled to find them.
