You have probably heard of San Antonio, Ibiza? Some of you may have even been there, it has had a lot of bad publicity over the years, which has encouraged more and more younger people to go, and by so doing has put quite a lot of families and older people off, Please don’t let all you hear ... My first encounter with Ibiza was 5 years ago, my friend, her Husband, Daughter (then 21) and Son then (18) were going and asked if my youngest Daughter, then (18) and myself would like to go as they were renting a 6-8 berth apartment, all we had to do was pay our fare, put in towards food and find some spending money, which we did. Now although I was excited, I was rather apprehensive as I had heard so much about Ibiza and especially San ... ...hitches,
We arrived in Ibiza at midnight, the heat was unbelievable even at that time, a Thompson Rep found us, and led us, and about 20 others to our coach, we had a 25 min journey to where we were staying, dropping off a few others en route.
~~~~~~~~OUR APPARTMENT~~~~~~ At the apartments (Playa Bella we were greeted and shown to our rooms on the second floor, we actually had a very nice pad with 3 bedrooms and another bed in dinning room, large ...
...to the Balearic Island of Ibiza to start a year as a Holiday Rep.
I was 23 years of age, and had lived on my own since I was 19, so the whole “moving away” malarkey wasn’t that new to me. I was already fully capable of washing my own clothes, doing my own shopping and I even held experience in getting rid of those really fast spiders that invade your house in early summer. (The huge ones you bravely try to catch with your bare hands, completely ... ...flying out in April, and Ibiza has primarily a summer only season that runs from May to October, I was flown into Palma Airport on Majorca, where a connecting Iberia Airways flight would take me over to the White Isle. So they told me.
What I wasn’t told is that Palma Airport is a sprawling metropolis and following an old, slightly doddery couple who looked like they knew where they were going, only for them to nip into a toilet; Thus leaving a ...
Advantages: Relaxed, quiet, beautiful surroudings. Disadvantages: Captive market in local shops and bars meant high prices - you need a car.
...was left on offer was Ibiza or a long-haul destination that unfortunately our budget couldn’t quite stretch to.
San Antonio was a long distant memory; it was some 20 years since I’d experienced the thrill and excitement of my first holiday without my parents! Ibiza had certainly opened my eyes even back then, and without boring you with the details of my mis-spent youth, I didn’t relish the thought of returning to Ibiza as a middle-aged mother, ... ...possible from San Antonio or Ibiza town centre, and that they most certainly obliged. We duly arrived at the Balanzat Apartments, Puerto de San Miguel at 11pm on a Friday evening in September, loud booming music – none, people throwing up all over – none, sex, drugs and wild parties on the beach – none – you should have seen the long faces on the young couple who travelled on the same coach from the airport!
The porter wanted to retain our passports ...
Advantages: Beautiful scenery, amazing clubbing experience Disadvantages: The cost whilst you are there for clubbing
...When people used to mention Ibiza I couldn’t even begin to imagine what it is actually like, after returning from my second trip I think I’m no longer deluded and reality has actually hit home. Ibiza is a great holiday destination for all types of people, but not a place I think I will ever return to again. So what has happened to make me change my mind?
The flight
I travelled from Manchester airport with BMI baby. ... ...turbulence free all the way.
Ibiza airport is situated in San Jose, around 4 miles from Ibiza town but much further away from San Antonio (a popular Ibiza resort). Car Rental
Depending on where you stay in Ibiza car rental is a must. We stayed in a beautiful town called Figueretas which is very close to the airport but quite a few miles away from San Antonia (approximately 8 pounds in a taxi). We rented a Renault Megane between five of us (there ...
Advantages: The perfect holiday, entertainment excellent, always things to do, great weather! Disadvantages: Was ill a few days which sorta spoilt it, need to stay a fortnight to see everything
I have recently been to Ibiza for the very first time. And boy, was it worth the wait! I am writing this as my personal account of the holiday, even though I went with my family (a big one!).
The flight on the way to Ibiza was excellent when flying with First Choice Airways. The entertainment on the way there was great with the TV screens and also the meal which was included with my package hoilday. The views out the window were breathtaking when ... ...of booking a holiday to Ibiza to go for a fortnight as a week there will not be long enough. I only explored part of Ibiza within that week I was there for.
On the way back, the flight was great also and guess what - the meal on the way back had to be Sausages and Mash - the start of eating English food again! The entertainment on the TV on the way back on the flight was good as there was a film shown.
So, that is my review of Ibiza. If you thinking ...
Advantages: Friendly, professional and the customer is always right Disadvantages: Can not say I have found any.
...I first used going places in June of last year, my husband and I had decided that we wanted to go on a very short notice holiday. We spent the best part of the day going from travel agent to travel agent trying to find a last minute holiday but within a reasonable price but somewhere of interest. Every where we wnt we were offered Ibiza, Spain, France, basically the live it up 18-30 kind of holidays. We didn't want this. We were about to give up hope and Going Places came up with a list as long as your arm of interesting places to go Cuba and Morrocco being two of the choices at very cheap prices. In the end we managed to get away in a 5 star hotel to Agadir Morrocco for a week for less than £600 for us both. It was a fantastic holiday to which we ended up going back to them to book our Honeymoon in Egypt in September...
Advantages: Near Bangkok Disadvantages: Could clean up the city a little more. Too many dogs, litter etc in parts. The main city beach is well - a city beach. The nearby Jomtien Beach is an improvment, but not in the same league as Phi Phi, Phuket, Chang, Samui etc.
...drugs and/or sex with minors is usually by undercover Police. So be warned all you paedophiles (not that I care about them). Luckily the penalties are death or imprisonment (life) for such doings (unlike in the West). Having said that, I never saw or heard of any underage sex while I was there. Drugs though are and have been a (illegal) part of Thai society for many years. It's not as open or accepted in Thailand as much as Ibiza (Spain).
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HATE IT
Don’t expect it to be Paradise here. After all it is a city. If you are disappointed with Pattaya I would recommend going to Samet Island, which is not too far away. A mini bus will also take you to Chang Island (Elephant Island). So named by it’s shape and not because there are any Elephants there (which is zero). This is arguably the best of Thailand’s Islands...
As promised, here is the Ibiza Hippie review, which is a continuation (kind of) of my Escada Sexy Graffiti op.
Every year Escada brings out a different perfume in an abstract heart-shaped bottle with a ribbed lid. And I have a bit of an obsession with more
