Es Caná is a family resort on the East side of the island of Ibiza. It is about 30 minutes drive from the airport which is located in the South of the island near to the Capital of Ibiza Town. Es Caná has a beautiful crescent beach where there are no stones or pebbles, just lovely soft sand. The water is very clear and you can walk out quite far before it becomes too deep. There is a small harbour for fishing boats and a ferry which takes tourists to Ibiza Town, Santa Eulalia or even the nearby smaller island of Formentera.
Es Caná is very popular and there are a good amount of hotels and apartments to choose from. When I went this summer I stayed at the HotelMarina Panorama which is opposite the harbour. This hotel is a Thomson Gold Hotel which means that they do not except anyone under the age of 16.
There are many restaurants along the beach front and also many 'fun pubs'. A couple of these 'fun pubs' include a mechanical bull which is fun to watch and to participate in, although not many people stay on for long. There is also a bar called 'Moonlites' which has a show every Sunday evening at about 9 o'clock which includes fire eating, walking on glass, lying on a bed of nails and more. This is free (except for drinks) and takes place outside the bar so you do not have to be cramped inside in the heat. All the local restaurants serve many english meals (especially the full english breakfast in the mornings) and also pasta, pies, fish, etc.
You will also find a glass bottomed boat in the harbor which takes you out to sea so you can view a shipwreck from sometime in the 1960's. On the beach there are many water activities including pedalos, banana boat rides, water skiing, para-gliding and more.
If you take a walk to the North of Es Caná you will find Cala Nova and Cala Leña which lead to very relaxing and restful shady spots to take in the beautiful coatline. If you head South you can walk to Santa Eulalia past Cala Martina and S'Aramassa and take in the wonderful views of the Mediterranean.
Es Caná is also famous for it's Hippy Market which takes place every Wednesday in the grounds of Club Punta Arabi between the months of May and October. There are always good parking facilities, but the bus is recommended during the high season as there can be a lot of traffic. It is not a long walk to the Hippy Market from Es Caná and only took me and my boyfriend about 20 minutes to walk there.
Tour Operators that go to Es Caná are Thomson, First Choice, JMC, Thomas Cook, Portland Direct, Cosmos, Mytraval and Airtours. If you do not book a package holiday then the airlines that travel to Ibiza are Britannia, Avro, Air Europa, British Airways and Iberia.
