After going to majorca a few times we wanted to try somewhere different. My sister sugested Ibiza so we thought we would try it. After trawling through brochures for which part to try we chose Es Cana.
Ibiza is famous as a clubber's paradise but there are other islands for those who want a quieter holiday. You can find the hustle and bustle if you want to, and you don't have to look far. It could be just a 10 min walk away. You may choose the quiet life just sitting on your balcony watching the days go by. I have 2 children aged 9 + 13 and I have gone to Ibiza for my last 2 holidays. We all think it is fantastic. It is very picturesque with fantastic clear seas and lovely sandy beaches. When I asked if we would try somewhere different this year everyone said no lets go back to Es Cana. The weather has been great on both occassions but I suppose part of that could be luck.
For our first holiday we stayed in Es Cana. We stayed at the hotelAtlantic which at the time was all inclusive but has been totally refurbished and is now a SC hotel but luxury one at that. It was quiet where we were but just a 5-10 min walk and things start to liven up especially at night in the bar called Charlies. There is a tiny harbour filled with fishing boats and regular boats to take you to other islands ie:- Ibiza Town, Santa Eulalia, Cala longa, etc. There are also fabulous views across the sea to distant islands next to a fabulous sandy beach which is supervised by life guards, and a clear blue sea where there is banana boats, and waterski, parasailing and windsurfing . The children can play safely all day and there cheerful places to eat out where the locals are very friendly. There are lively family entertainment bars or quieter bars. prices are very reasonable for drinks and food. 5 of us had a cooked meal and a drink each the total cost was 32 euros. Evenings can be filled with fun and frolics, or quiet and low key depending on your mood. Choose from homemade pub grub or steak and all the trimmings, there's plenty to suit even the fussiest of eaters and children are welcome everywhere. The shopkeepers really go out of their way, coming out saying morning and giving the children sweets. They are also really clean people. There is always someone cleaning something. The Famous Hippy market is held each Wednesday and because it’s only a short stroll from the main resort there's no extra costs involved in getting there.
Our 2nd holiday was in Cala Llonga. Another fabulous destination of the Balearic Islands. This island has a magnificent wide sandy beach which borders the picturesque Bay with pineclad hills on either side. It has a range of Shops, supermarkets, bars, cafés and restaurants for you to choose from. My favourite being the chinese restaurant. The food was cheap and delicious. It cost just £40 for 5 of us to eat and have a drink or two!! It was a little quieter than Es Cana but is a very nice place.
There are mini amusement parks where most rides cost between 1 + 2 euros each. There is a wooden playground right on the beach. You can also find a dive school on the beach which charges reasonable prices for 1/2 or full days or just a beginners course. There are plenty of excursions in both resorts for those of you that want to explore the other islands. These are good so you can go for the day and you can then see what they would be like to stay in for a week or so. We went on the sunset strip tour to San Antonio, this was fantastic. I would definately recommend anyone to try Ibiza whether it is the lively part of Ibiza or the quieter islands where we stayed.
