The Land Of Voodoo!

Advantages: Beautiful,Genuine taste of the Caribbean of the past
Disadvantages: Poverty

Haiti is steeped in tradition and is well known for its association with Voodoo. Port au Prince is home to the Holiday Inn and Presidential Palace (next door) once inhabited by the infamous Papa Doc Duvalier. Port Au Prince is a hustling shanty town of a place compared to any other capital city despite the intervention of the US with aid to the country. There is a stark contrast to the Presidential Palace and the surrounding poverty experienced by many of the local people. Although this Club Med is not open there are a few things I would like to tell you about it. The major Staff were all employed by Club Med. The other Staff were people who lived near the Club. They were paid the same wages that Club Med pays their ...

Chinua Achebe's language in "Things Fall Apart"

Advantages: just reading...
Disadvantages: I hope you won't get bored

collapsed into anarchy because of a flaw in humanity: "Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity. [?]" Analogally, Achebe's novel portraits a lively traditional Nigerian village, Umofian, which "falls apart" soon after the arrival of the whites. The novel is set during the 1890s, when British missionaries and colonial government made their strong intrusion into the Ibo society. Okonkwo, the main character, is a big self-made man of the village, unwilling to accept the process of colonisation, destined to be left alone, fighting in vain against the Nigerian ...
