Icelandair

Advantages: FAST! FRIENDLY!
Disadvantages: NONE FOR SCOTTISH PASSENGERS, LONDON PASSENGERS HAVE ONE CHANGE

I had my first flight with Icelandair. Icelandair fly from Glasgow and Heathrow to Halifax, Minneapolis, New York JFK, Baltimore/Washington BWI, Boston and Orlando, via their "hub" at Reykjavik. From Scotland, this offers significant time savings. Normally Glasgow passengers have to fly to London or Amsterdam, and then fly back over Scotland, over Iceland then down to America. A lot of wasted time which Icelandair save. They operate a fleet of Boeing 757s. On-board, the seats were comfortable, the food was excellent - try the Icelandic beer, Egils, it is great! - and the staff were genuinally friendly, and I was quickly settled in! Reykavik airport is a breeze to transfer through. You can't get lost in it! Icelandair connections allow for 60-90 minutes at this small airport, and a range of facilities from ATM's to duty-free shops ...

Review of Icelandair

A clean and relatively comfortable hotel

Advantages: Close to Rekjavik city airport and the city centre
Disadvantages: Not in a very nice area and a bit noisy with the planes

A good basic hotel but a bit noisy being right next to Rekjavik city airport. We stayed here for one night in July 2007 before moving on around Iceland. The staff were pleasant and welcoming and spoke excellent English. The room was a twin with no real view - basic but clean and comfortable. It also had blackout curtains which was useful with 24 hour daylight! It was about a 10-15 min walk into the city centre and the staff were very helpful in providing maps. The hotel appeared to be on the edge of an industrial estate so the walk wasn't particularly pleasant. There was a good selection of hot and cold food for breakfast. There was also an indoor swimming pool but unfortunately we weren't there long enough to try it. ...

Review of Icelandair Hotel Loftleidir, Reykjavik

A Frosty Service

Advantages: Quick and efficient check-in and disembarkment.
Disadvantages: Big class division. Cramped elbow and leg space. The food!!

For our planned holiday to Reykjavik (reviews to follow), Icelandair was the natural choice of airlines. A choice based on the airline's catchphrase from their advert "Icelandair connects Iceland to Europe". We flew from Manchester to Keflavik Airport where there are twice weekly flights. Other UK airports serviced by Icelandair are London Heathrow (daily flights) and Glasgow (also twice weekly). Icelandair flies from the UK not only to Iceland but also onwards to New York, Boston, Washington, Orlando, Minneapolis, Halifax and Toronto. The service in general was smooth and quick. Check-in and disembarkment proceded problem-free. The flight kept closely to its schedule. But . . . The "frosty service" forming the title of my review is perhaps a little too strong - but the service was certainly ambivalent teetering on the edge ...
