Reykjavik: Cold Weather and Hot Springs
Review of Reykjavik (Iceland) by  sonic0209

Advantages: Beatiful, crowd-free, unspoiled
Disadvantages: Cold (just wrap up warm) and expensive

...Intro ~~~~ I have just returned from a family holiday in Reykjavik, the most northerly capital in the world. No one in our family is suited to the heat and we are not drawn by beach holidays. We were attracted by the reported beauty of the city and Iceland promised adventure with its volcanic landscape, geysers and waterfalls, puffins and whales. We were not disappointed and we left keen to return and explore more of this beautiful country. The City ~~~~~~~ Perched on the edge of the Arctic Circle, Reykjavik sits on the south west coast of Iceland, oh so many miles north of Scotland in the north Atlantic Ocean. It is rapidly increasing in size, mostly from people migrating here from other parts of the country. Iceland is very sparsely populated, two thirds of a total of only 300,000 Icelanders live in the Reykjavik area... Read review

A weekend In Reykjavik
Review of Metropolitan Hotel, Reykjavik by  serendipity7

Advantages: cheap, great location, helpful staff, nice breakfast, nice facilities, tours
Disadvantages: room very small and a bit cold

...Reykjavik is the low key capital of Iceland with famous nightlife. It is also VERY VERY expensive. The Metropolitan was great as it offers cheap (for Iceland) accommodation close to the centre of town. I paid approx £40 per night for a single room in December, which was very cramped but clean, with ensuite facilities, fridge, TV and a double bed which was nice, although had to skirt round the edge of it to get to the shower room, etc. The building inside is cosy but dated and probably 40 years old and there is a tiny lounge (one couch by the front door) area by reception where you can wait for taxis, excursions etc. There is no real lounge space so you are limited to your room, and my room was limited, so that is a downside. The staff at the reception (to be honest it's more like someone's house converted) are lovely... Read review

A 21st Century hotel in historic Reykjavik
Review of Hotel Reykjavik Centrum, Reykjavik by  millieanna

Advantages: In the heart of traditional Reykjavic
Disadvantages: none

...in Reykjavik. The hotel also comprises of a bar/coffee lounge with soft sofas as well as the standard tables and chairs. This was a pleasant place to visit after a hard day of sight seeing. Overall we were extremely pleased and relieved to find this hotel was of a good standard because we could find very little independent information about it before our visit . We hope you enjoy it too.... Read review
