Iguacu, Where are You?

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, shared by two countries, stunning falls
Disadvantages: long way to go but worth it

...a wonderful view of the Iguaçu Falls. Unfortunately our room had a jungle view rather than a when of the falls but in are the public areas the view of the falls could be enjoyed by everyone.
On our first day we enjoyed the Upper (or Superior) walk and we were treated to our first sight of these amazing waterfalls. During the walks we were also lucky enough to see a badger-like creative called a Cotymundy foraying in one d the title bins. It ...

As we followed the trail at each turn we saw more of these spectacular waterfalls. As we walked along we were also able to enjoy a huge variety of tropical butterflies which fluttered around us and even landed on us with their wings opening and shutting to display their wonderful colours. At times when the sun ... more

Poor Niagara!

Advantages: Stunning, dramatic - possibly the most impressive waterfalls in the world.
Disadvantages: Expensive to reach.

“Poor Niagara!” So remarked Eleanor Roosevelt upon seeing the Iguazú Falls for the first time; it is this sense of immediate and lasting awe that best defines 250+ waterfalls that together form the blanket of crashing water separating Brazil and Argentina. Second though it may be to Victoria Falls in statistics of size and volume, in more subjective terms of comparison, there can be few other natural sites with such impact and inherent raw beauty. ...
...~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Reaching the Falls ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Around two hours’ flight north of Buenos Aires and west of Rio, the Falls lie just to the south-east of the Brazil-Argentina-Paraguay border. Although technically three towns, Foz do Iguaçu, Puerto Iguazú and Ciudad del Este form one large urban sprawl around the confluence of the Parana and Iguazú rivers. Both Foz and Puerto Iguazú make good bases for seeing the Falls (or Cataratas), ...

Iguaçu

Advantages: Less touristy and tacky than Niagara
Disadvantages: Give it time and it will become touristy and tacky

Iguaçu (or Iguazú) waterfalls are some of the most impressive in the world, not the biggest, widest nor tallest waterfall, but 275 separate waterfalls spread over a three-kilometre crescent between Argentina and Brazil. Most of the falls are in Argentina, but the best views are from the Brazilian side. While on holiday in Brazil, after a wonderful few days in Rio de Janeiro and before heading into the Amazon Jungle I spent a few days at Iguaçu, ...
...for an hotel overlooking the Iguaçu Falls on the Brazilian side with just a two-minute walk for a stunning view of the falls from a terrace. There is also a twenty-minute walk along a walkway next to the falls with various viewing platforms en-route and an amazing platform at the end of the walkway. The hotel is a very attractive, colonial style building with two restaurants a bar and very pleasant, relaxing gardens. We walked along the footpath ...

Basalt On The Senses

Advantages: One of the most beautiful places in the world.
Disadvantages: Slow reactions leads to wet camcorders.

The Iguazu Falls ranks as one of South America foremost attractions. It's easy to see why after spending a day there, you will be spellbound. The Falls are situated in one of Argentina's best National Parks, Parque Nacional Iguazu in the north east of the country. The closest town to the Falls is Puerto Iguazu which survives purely from the tourist business but is beautifully serene. The Falls came into being after a rush of lava (made up of basalt ...
...huge natural cliff was created. This sheer drop happened to be spread over several kilometres and when the waters of the Rio Iguazu (river) plummet from the edge the result is like a scene taken from a movie endowed with eye popping special effects. PUERTO IGUAZU The closest town to the Falls comes complete with huge tracts of forest in the background. While Puerto Iguazu is a lovely town to relax in anything more than 2 days could lead to boredom. ...

Iguacu - better by the bucketload than Niagra/Victoria Falls

Advantages: Unbelievable scenery, fantastic wildlife
Disadvantages: Not much choice of accomodation

The stunning array of cascades is what makes Iguacu, in my opinion, the most the spectacular of the world?s waterfalls. Unlike other, taller waterfalls, the falls is made up o a semi-circle of hundreds of individual water falls, all pouring into a tempestuous river. Take a boat trip up this river to next to the falls and you are in one of the best places to appreciate them ? look right, look left, look straight ahead and all you can see is walls of tumbling water crashing down over rocks with sub-tropical vegetation close by to add to the spectacle. The falls lie literally on the border between Argentina and Brazil (the border is in fact the river on which the falls are) but I would recommend staying on the Brazillian side. The views are better from here, and the most secondary activities are on this side. For British tourists, no visa ...

Puerto Heaven

Advantages: Paradise
Disadvantages: You have to leave sometime....

This is the closest thing to paradise I have ever seen. Eden may have looked like this, if God was in a particularly good mood on the sixth day, or whenever it was he created it. The Falls mark the point where Brazil and Argentina border one another. The river Iguazu (Portuguese spelling – or Iguacu in Spanish) cascades down through a large valley at this point – see other reviews in the section for an explanation of how the valley was formed. The river itself is spectacular enough – At least to an East Londoner whose only knowledge of rivers up ‘til this point was the grotty Thames, festooned with shopping trolleys and plastic bags. The river Iguacu is HUGE – its name literally meant “Big Water” in the language of the local people – until the Spanish arrived. Thankfully they kept ...

A Drop In Time

Advantages: As Breathtaking As An Anaconda.
Disadvantages: Only Expensive Rolls Of Film Do It Justice.

', Iguacu) leave from platform 1 at the bus station. There is a departure every 40 minutes beginning at 7am right through to 5 in the evening. There is no need to buy tickets in advance as the $2 fare is collected on board. The Iguazu bus is distinctive, it is white and could easily pass for an airport transfer bus. The destination sign on the front of the bus says Cataratas (Spanish for 'Falls'). The 15 km journey to the entrance of the National Park only takes about 20 minutes. Once you arrive, admission to the National Park is $9 which includes a return trip by tram to the most impressive Falls, Garganta Del Diablo ('The Devil's Throat'). There are many extra options available if you wish to enhance your experience of the Falls. As you would expect these options cost a little extra. The most common excursion is to take a dingy to ...
