Il Postino

Advantages: life affirming
Disadvantages: none!

Film only review. Il Postino (1994) Director: Michael Radford Stars: Philippe Noiret, Massimo Troisi, Maria Grazia Cucinotta Not to be confused with the wholly inferior Kevin Costner vehicle with the same name (Il Postino means "The Postman" - US title), this charming Italian language film won an Academy Award for Original Music Score and was nominated for five other awards including Best Director, Best Actor (Massimo Troisi) and Best Picture. The film is based on an adaptation of a Spanish language novel, Ardiente Paciencia by Antonio Skarmeta and is based partly on real life events that happened to the 1971 Nobel Prize for Literature winning poet, Pablo Neruda. Neruda (1904-1973), known as el poeta del amor (the poet of love), famed for his beautiful love poetry, and was also famous for his political poetry and activism ...

THE DIVINE IL DIVO - NOT ONLY FOR WOMEN!

Advantages: Fantastic album,no "bad" songs, excellent voices
Disadvantages: None if you like the combination opera-pop

My wife was going on and on about how wonderful this new group-IL DIVO- are in their video clip on Classic FM TV so I logon to 101cd.co.uk and ordered it for her, the day that their cd was released.(1st of November). (£8.95. They accept paypal.) 5th of November and the cd still not with us. This afternoon I had to go for some shopping to the local Asda and as I pass from the cd section I saw their cd so I decided to buy it there and then (with £9.77) and surprise my wife. I thought I could cancel my order as after 5 days I think their service there in 101cd.co.uk is really slow. I picked my wife with the car. I had the first track on the cd player. She was really happy and she was quiet all the way home listening to them. 7 hours later, the cd is still playing in the house non stop. We prepare our meal, listening to it, we ...

Review of Il Divo - Il Divo

IL Divo 'Encore'

Advantages: Stunning voices,great atmosphere,brilliant songs
Disadvantages: perhaps there could have been more tracks

This live performance was filmed in Spain at Teatro Romanao De Merida and followed the globally successful album 'Ancora'. The DVD is part concert and part documentary with a couple of videos 'Regresa a Mi and the wonderful 'Mamma' thrown in as well. Il Divo comprise of four singers, a baritone (Carlos), two tenors (Urs and David) and a vox populi (Steven). Together they blend perfectly to make magical music. They have been dubbed 'popera' but that is unfair in my opinion even if they have through their unique talents helped popuarise opera. To bring a much derided genre of music to the masses can only be a good thing and I speak as someone who enjoys music from classical to metal. A true music lover will have eclectic tastes. The live performance features 5 tracks 'Si Tu Me Amas', 'Isabel', 'O Holy Night ...
