Firstly the location is spectacular, with an unenvied look out over the Torbay area the sea facing rooms are well worth the supplement payable when booking. The premium rooms are large and well appointed. I would ask for one in the main hotel as some rooms have access only through the resaurant which can be a bit intimidating during feeding times when others are busy eating ther dinner!
The facilities are 1st class however, with a lovely indoor pool complex with a sauna and spa as well as a well appointed exercise room (if you are into that sort of thing). The changing rooms are clean and well furnished and the staff helpful. Outside you can book the tennis courts (for free for residents) as well as using the indoor snooker room for free and the video games room.
The on site hair-dressers is a little expensive but worth it for that little luxury that you dont mind indulging in whilst on holiday.
The car park costs extra though, and this point needs to be addressed by the management, as I would have thought that when you pay for your hotel you dont expect to be charged £5 a day extra for using the hotel car park.
Rooms are large and well furnished but the sea view rooms are extra special and look out over a fabulous vantage point, you can wake up to the English riviera and all the blue sea and sky is totally breathtaking.
Food is a major let down however, the buffet breakfast is worth having but the evening meals are disappointing (quality is not of a 5 star standard), and with the abundance of decent restaurants in Torquay we simply walked into town in the evening for a good variety of affordable restaurants all of which were excellent. Having said that, the vista from the restauarant is spectacular.
With cut price offers from a variety of online boking agents as well as Paramount's own online booking site the price does not have to be full whack and we enjoyed 5 days stay for about £120 per night B&B (for a couple).
The outdoor pool area is wonderful, you could imagine yourself on the Cote D'Azur without any difficulty and on a warm sunny day you HAVE to relax by the pool which is rarely crowded.
All in all we will be back soon, Torquay may be a little tacky in parts but the Imperial is a lovely oasis of 5 star opulence.
Thank-you for the staff who were attentive and excellent and not pompous or aloof such as are found at some other 5 star establishments that we have stayed at previously.

...pleasure of staying at the Imperial for a couple of nights for a residential conference. The Imperial is part of the paramount chain, there are frequently special offers on their website www.paramount-hotels.co.uk. The usual discounter (laterooms, discount city hotels etc) can sometimes do deals on room rates. The rate I paid was a conference rate of about £50 per night but at the moment the Paramount website has Room only at £69, DBB at £143 per ... ...makes up for it). The Imperial is a purpose built hotel so the rooms are purpose built. The furnishings are extremely good quality. The bathrooms are large and well equipped. The whole hotel, from public rooms to bedrooms is impeccably maintained and spotlessly clean.
The Food - Breakfast was outstanding, a hot and cold buffet. Plentiful, good qualitty, well prepared ingredients. The other meals were part of the conference package and were of a ...

picturesque, bustling and great for good photographs.Clustered around are some fascinating shops, amusement centers, kiosks and all the traditional fun one associates with the English seaside.
The accommodation picture in Torquay and the rest of Torbay is superb. Torquay has several de luxe hotels including the 5 star ImperialHotel, numerous 2/3 star hotels and numerous spotlessly clean and homely bed and breakfast establishments. Brixham also boasts of several good hotels and guest houses and Paignton is replete with clean and freshly painted guest houses and small hotels.
You can great fish and chips in Torquay - and at nearby Paignton and Brixham- other traditional English food, such as steak and kidney pie. You also have a very wide choice of sophisticated bistros, Continental, Middle Eastern and Oriental restaurants.
